Create Simple Scripts w/ GUI for Linux and Windows

Potomac Talking Books (PTB) is seeking to hire a temporary Linux programmer for a one-time project. The programmer must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Linux shell scripting and provide three references. Background: PTB is a government contractor that produces audio books for the Library of Congress’s National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS). PTB provides several services for the NLS, including book and magazine narration, DTB creation, flash cartridge duplication, and analog-to-digital conversion. The NLS provides Linux based validation and encryption scripts for ensuring each produced audiobook adheres to certain specifications. PTB is looking for a Windows and Linux programmer who will be able to take the NLS provided scripts and create new scripts that automate multiple tasks including simple file management, zip archiving, checksum generation, execution of the NLS’s encryption and validation scripts, auto-uploading to the NLS’s server, email notification, auto-entry of information into the NLS’s web based database, and the creation of simple GUI’s and documentation of the new scripts. Specific Tasks: • Advising and building of Linux based computer to manage and execute desired Linux based scripts (machine to be purchased by PTB) • Meet with the PTB Director of Production to finalize all tasks and create a timeline for completion of work. • Take NLS provided encryption and validation scripts and create new scripts incorporating simple file management, zip archiving, checksum generation, execution of the NLS’s encryption and validation scripts, auto-uploading to the NLS’s server, email notification, and auto-entry of information into the NLS’s web based database. • Create simple GUI and documentation for this project. • Must be willing to travel to Bethesda, MD based office for meetings and work directly with our files and servers for testing, etc. Programming can be done remotely, but all provided scripts must be tested in-house. Required Skills: • Strong proficiency in Windows and Linux Shell Scripting and ability to execute tasks as outline above. • Ability to come to Bethesda, MD based office for a handful meetings and testing sessions. • Must be able to incorporate the Linux machine and scripts to work flawlessly within a Windows based network environment.
