C++, Open CV and Kinect - Assistance in running an example application

I am currently working on a project that requires me to implement successful fingertip identification. Having come across a Youtube video [login to view URL] which demonstrates the exact functions I hope to implement, I decided to download the source which is available from [login to view URL] This project is for Visual Studio 2010 and has been written in C++ with the aid of Code Laboratories drivers for the Kinect and the OpenCV library. Having spent many hours trying to successfully execute this source code with no success with the error "Access violation reading location" being presented. I have searched high and low to find a solution to no avail. What I require of you are detailed step by step instructions informing me of how I can successfully run the source code. This would require you to have a Kinect device which would be much in preference. It may be possible for you to only have a very good knowledge of the source code and be able to identify the potential errors.
