Existing Website Modifications

Project scope is the modification of an existing website. Wesbite is hosted on Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0 MicrosoftOfficeWebServer: 5.0_Pub X-Powered-By: ASP.NET Products descriptions are stored in a SQL Server database (SQL Server 2K.) See deliverables for a description of the changes required. Items in addition to these will be handled by a change order. Pictures and content text will be provided in digital form. Complete site can be zipped and posted for your retrieval along with database so you can work on it locally, or you can access the development server where it is replicated. PLEASE NOTE: Bidding end date was modified 7/23/05 ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). The following is a nearly complete listing of the modifications to be made to the existing site: Changes: * Eliminate "Flash" splash screen that loads before site loads. * Revise front page to engage the visitor and encourage them to enter the "store" online. * Ensure that address, phone and fax appear on every page. * Ensure that address, phone and fax appear on the "Location" page. * Ensure that address, phone and fax appear on the "Hours" page. * Add copyright notice to all pages. Add privacy policy link to all pages if any personal * information is collected and saved. Modify "Contact Us" page to show all methods that are available to contact someone at the store: fax, phone, email or visit. Currently, only email is encouraged. * Revise navigation structure so that there is only one level of links across the top, with no redundancy. Clarify "Designer Jewelry" and "Shop": they currently direct visitors to the same page. * Ensure page titles are correct in the browser window. Currently, "Home" has "default", "Shop" has "Search Results", "Events" has "Appraisals", "About Us" has "AboutUs", "Watches" yields "Search Results", etc. * Eliminate links to designers that have no products in the catalog. Currently, clicking any of several designer's links results in an error: "No products have been found. Please refine your search criteria." * Add to navigation to allow for articles and content that has been written. Add or modify navigation to allow for "Specials" (instead of "Events".) * Modify table structure so that left and right navigation menus do not wrap when the link name is too long to fit into the width of the table. I believe "PeterStorm Designs" and "Black & White Diamond" both wrap in an improper manner on Internet Explorer, making the list of links appear unprofessional and jagged. * Eliminate reliance on FONT and BGCOLOR tags, and move to Style Sheet (CSS) based formatting. * Ensure all pages utilize the same font. Currently the "Appraisals" and "Events" pages use different fonts. * Modify display of prices to drop the trailing .00, unless there are cases where it is meaningful, but it appears that every price online ends in .00, which clutters the pages unnecessarily. * Change the items that are loaded on the front page of the "Shop" page to include more items, configurable items and specials as necessary. * Change the jewelry displayed on the "About Us" page to something more current. * Eliminate the links that draw visitors away from the site, unless the revenue generated compensates from the loss of the visitor. Some of the links that draw people from the site: * The Wells Fargo link: replace it with something like "Financing Available" and a link to a financing page which explains all the options available for payment. * Links to the eBay items, unless they are jewelry related. You can also incorporate the items that are available on eBay directly into the site, rather than sending visitors to the eBay store immediately. * The xxxxxx Boutique link is confusing and may not be serving its intended purpose. Remove it. * Move images from xxxxxxxx to this-site.com. Re-think the practice of linking to the manufacturer site when you cannot list that manufacturer's product online. How likely is it that customers will leave your site, visit the manufacturer's site, then call or come into the store to make the purchase?
