Virtuemart sub products with their own quantity/sku etc

Hi! We use virtuemart through joomla. We had designers code us a template, but we need to add a subproducts feature. We want it to be possible for customers to view a product and choose colors and/or sizes from a dropdown-menu and these subproducts need to have their own SKU and quantity!
