A video game research project involving rewriting a classic Pac-Man clone, adding a more advanced, 'learning' A.I. component that can track basic player movement, which will then attempt to plan the best route through the typical pac-maze. The program would need to be set up to run 'trials', in order to demonstrate the new efficiency of the upgraded AI. The program will be used by independent researchers to conduct analysis of the impact of modern AI on 'games from the classical era', and what impact this has on metagaming. For this modified version, the 'ghosts' would need to exhibit basic path learning of the player. The ghosts go to where they predict pac-man to be after a couple of short trials. Hence, after running a few short games of pac-man, the ghosts should rapidly be able to track him down rather than resorting to the more randomised, traditional A.I. used in the game.
