Knowledge Trees in a Learning Landscape

I’m interested in finding a developer to prepare in [login to view URL] (or D3.js) a prototype “text to tree” app with features similar to what can be seen at [login to view URL] and [login to view URL] . The core idea for authoring in this new app would be to fill a 2.5D learning landscape – such as shown in the attached image – with (vertically-rising) mind map trees. In authoring mode, a user could plant a tree of knowledge on chosen topic by right clicking at any point in the terrain. The tree then would be procedurally generated, based on the user’s selection from a list of available .txt files to import. (Each text file would be in outliner format with multilevel indenting so as to produce branches, sub-branches, and twigs.) When in browsing mode, the learner could scan knowledge trees in the landscape by moving the cursor over it. A double click would let the user could zoom in to see main branches and sub-branches. Moving the cursor would pop up text and links for each part of the tree. The user could click on the popups to explore related links. Beyond the initial prototype, future features could include the ability for users to give feedback on what they found, as well as to create branches, twigs, and/or leaves for existing trees. Ideally, any tree in the future also would have the option to become a “walkable” branching path or trail on the learning landscape – a path that then could be populated with vertically rising knowledge trees. I would like to know the approximate costs and timeline if you could create a prototype with these capabilities in D3.js or Three.js. I have a limited budget for the initial work-for-hire deliverable, but if the prototype goes well I would be glad to go further in funding a full-featured open source elearning app. Will welcome your bid and ideas on possible next steps!
