i am seeking assistance with microsoft excel probably visual basic or macros too possibly.
i would like the ability to EXTRACT specific information from large text files. these text files can have hundreds or sometimes even thousands or tens of thousands of lines.
the lines of data will be from systems and hardware equipment, and show like make, model, serial number, versions, dates, times, flags, ups, downs, and more. the output would vary regarding the data requested from the hardware...but the format is expected to be the same for each data output. i suspect there would be a START and END for each systems, to which i am trying to EXTRACT and COLLECT the data between - the info inside the START and END of each system.
an example, hardware data....the data will "appear/present" the same format, but the data would be slightly different on each, make, model, serial number, system, files, dates, times, etc.
the files will be first pulled from 50-100 systems with a few commands, then all those files would be combined into ONE SINGLE FILE (example; copy *.* [login to view URL]). in this ONE FILE file would be all the information from each of the 50-100 systems. that information should be in the same format throughout the file, per system.
i would like someone to help me be able to EXTRACT specific data from the SINGLE FILE and put it into a sortable, filterable and reportable spreadsheet rows and columns.
example, i copy and paste the info from the SINGLE TEXT FILE into the Microsoft Workbook. i paste it into Sheet1 of the Workbook. afterwards, in Sheet2 of the same workbook, would then show me all the ROWS and COLUMNS of data automatically for me to be able then to sort, filter and report on.

Hi!
May I suggest something? To use Microsoft Access instead of Excel. As it seems there are lots of lines in the text file I guess it is much easier and faster to process that in the database program. We can send final data to Excel if needed, that is easy to do.
What I want to know, if you are with me to go with Access, I am wondering - can you send me one of such files? I will need to create basic code to see how that works.

You don't have to do copy/paste your text to one sheet and then expect to have a report in second sheet.
