I need a stress testing system to benchmark various configurations of my website which is expected to take a slashdot-like-effect in the near future, and help in tweaking the setup of the server. I will need the benchmarks to be saved in a format that will allow easy comparison between various website server setups. The stress testing system should be made up of a stress testing server (STR) which will manage pageloads generated by about 100 agents, according to some behavior scenario for each agent which should simulate normal browsing patterns. The STR should have a dashboard (either as a web page or as a standalone program, as we'll agree about later) that will allow controlling all of the various stress testing function plus provide for each agent: • current status • history of requests made by the agent • starting/stopping an agent • performance parameters as experienced by each agent The website server, STR, and agents will all be installed on computers inside a LAN (although some of the agents may be in virtual machines) so we can neglect network latencies in the performance calculations. The STR should be written in Python using Twisted and will run on a Linux machine, while the agents should be written in C++ and run on WinXP. The dashboard can run either on the STR or on some administrator machine. Please send me: • how do you plan to simulate normal browsing patterns for the agents as genuinely as possible? • which questions do you need me to answer before you can accurately estimate the complexity, timeframe and costs for this project • what experience do you have with Selenium? (in case we'd want to incorporate Selenium tests into the stress tests)
