The project is a bespoke Mandarin Chinese language teaching software for use in night-classes. We require a native English speaker with a good recording voice and intermediate Mandarin speaking skills. You would play the character of somebody visiting China for the first time and learning Mandarin during your stay there. It would be best if your Mandarin didn't sound too fluent as you play the part of a beginner learner!
Applicants should submit mp3 recordings of the following sample lines:
"Wo3men zu4o di4tie3 qu4. That means 'we'll go by subway'. Ok, let’s go!"
"What do you think of those pearl necklaces? I could get one for my mother. How would I say pearl necklace?"
"Wo3 ya4o ka4nkan zhe4ge zhe1nzhu1 xia4nglia4n"
The project work comprises about 800 short lines of mixed English and basic/intermediate Mandarin. Payment will be arranged in instalments as you go. The successful applicant should be comfortable with producing good quality results in a home recording setting. You would be recording these yourself and emailing the finished mp3 files. The recording quality and sound quality need to be to a high standard, with no background noise and a clear voice. Applicants should try to inject a good amount of enthusiasm and personality into their recordings.
