Cognitive impairment is the alteration of one or more brain functions, which do not prevent the older adult from fulfilling the daily activities, so it is considered a stage between normality and dementia. General Objective: To determine the factors associated with cognitive deterioration in non-institutionalized older adults in Valencia, Carabobo State in 2018. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive study, non-probabilistic sample comprised of 76 retired senior citizens and pensioners attached to the FOPEDIUC who agreed to participate voluntarily. Results: Average age of 69.25 (± 6,18) years 51.3% (n=39) females and 48.7% (n=37) males ; in the evaluation of activities of daily living, the Katz index reported 5.3% (n=4) with moderate deterioration, the majority of which was composed of females in 7.7% (n=3), the Lawton scale it was 2.6% (n=2) with slight dependence, cognitive deterioration with the MMSE was reported in 1.3% (n=1), in the dynamic equilibrium test (TGU) women presented a greater percentage of slight risk 38.5% (n=15) compared to men who gave 21.6% (n=8).Conclusions: This sample shows that academic training and years of study are a protective factor of cognitive deterioration measured through the MMSE, the presence of frailty was more frequent in females and a tendency to increase frequency was found as age progressed, quality of life is definided by functionality and degree of independence.
