I am a mathematician who began to realize the joys of applied math while working on very abstract concepts. This led me to jump into the world of scientific programming to see abstract math in action.
My scientific background roots in optimization, geometry and computations. I have been working as a data scientist for years, building predictive models using statistical modelling and machine learning.
I believe each problem demands specialized solutions which usually outperform general purpose popular solutions. I do not condemn the usage of off-the-shelf methods, but in my opinion, interpreting a tailored solution is usually more accurate.
I have tried to overcome my resistance against black box methods by building tools which employ them as components and try to use them in a more "clever" way. My efforts were summarized as a toolbox in Automatic Machine Learning (AutoML).
