Experience is one of the most important resources a translator can have once translating is, essentially, an intellectual activity. It requires as much problem solving and research skills as knowledge of the specific languages pairs.
I have a PhD in Languages and I've been working as a freelance translator since my graduate school days, first at Rio de Janeiro University and later at University of Santa Barbara. My main job since those years has been researching and writing academic papers in Spanish, Portuguese and English. My native language is Spanish and I'm fully fluent as well in English and Portuguese. I’ve lived immerse in these three cultural universes.
Due to the wide range of interests I have in life, I am familiar with the vocabulary of many disciplines such as Languages, Literature, Philosophy, Cooking, Tourism, Nutrition, Gardening, Transportation, Environmental Sciences, Botanics, Politics, Arts, Ceramics, Metallurgical Sciences and others.
Translation is part of my everyday life as I have lived for the last 30 years in environments where I'm required to communicate in these three languages, going back and forth amid them.
