VB Inventory Tracking and FTP Application

This project should be developed in VB6 or VB.Net and is intended to track inventory for a retail sporting goods store. It requires very basic Inventory Item tracking capabilities, and a simple POS type interface. The application will then automatically create and upload a website based on the items currently in inventory.

A very detailed spec is attached. This is my first attempt at developing specs for another programmer to code, but I have been a programmer for many years. Please review the specs carefully before bidding. Feel free to ask for clarification on any questions you may have.

I am not setting a project deadline now, but will prior to accepting the bid. Please include in your intended devlopment language, and a reasonable timeline in your bid. If anyone needs me to extend the bidding deadline so you have time to more fully review the spec, please ask.

## Deliverables

1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.

2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):

a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.

b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.

3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).

There has been some question on the POS portion of this bid request. I probably should not have called it a POS solution - the only thing I meant by POS was that there are fields on the screen that allow the user to record purchase and sale information (who, when, how much). The application is fully explained in the specs, so there is no additional POS "stuff" I hope that clears up some of the confusion. The complicated portion of this application I would expect to be the FTP requirements. Everything else should be fairly simple. If you know how to use FTP command within VB, even that should be fairly simple.

Is there anything specific in the application specs that is complicating the project and increasing the cost, or perhaps was poorly written? The functionality c an be modified in certain areas if it would reduce developmet time and costs. Any area of the application may be up for negotiation if you discuss it with me prior to bid closing, and make any changes to the specs obvious in your bid.

Specifically:

The layaway function could be reduced to a much more simple function that remoives the "scheduling" feature with due dates on payments to just a simple accounting application that tracks amount due, charges and payments against the layaway, etc. If simplifying this helps, please let me know your bid is for the simpler layaway function - we will need to discuss it further. If you do not specifically tell me in the bid that you are bidding on les functionality, I will assume you are bidding on the original specs.

Also, the Crystal Reports module can be discussed as possibly being optional. Again, if you are bidding with no or reduced reporting capabilities, this must be made obvious in y our bid, or I will expect it to meet the original specs.

Just one other point to clarify. Originally I posted this spec with a comment that I am using this application as a test for a larger POS application I willo be looking to send to a coder in the next few weeks. I referred throughout the specs and such to a ""larger POS solution" or the bigger project, etc. This confused many people, so I tried to remove all references to the next project from this spec. It appears from a few comments that bidders have made that I may have missed a reference somewhere. Please ignore references to the larger POS application, etc - this is a separate project which will be developed on its own. I apologize for any confusion. I'm still learning how to post bid requests and word my requests and specs. You are bidding on a fairly small application fully described in the specs attached. The application simply tracks invenmtory items, records basic information on who bought it, sold it, etc and then creates HTML files and uploads them.

This is NOT a bid to create a website. The website design itself has nothing to do with this application, it uses templates and simply exports text files then uploads them.

See Specs for Details - needs to run ideally on all operating systems from Windows 98SE-Windows XP. Internet Explorer 6.0 is an acceptable pre-req if desired for any reason. I believe all functions of this program can be accomplished with standard Visual Basic controls. I plan to continue developing this code, so I do not want the application developed with any special third prty proprietary controls or tools that I would not have. It also cannot include any third party controls that cannot be freely distributed with the final project.
