a) Write the interface file, which specifies the protocol for the data communication between the client and the remote machine (server). The interface file has a .x extension b) Run the rpcgen (abbrev for RPC generator) with the .x file as the input. The rpcgen executes the .x file and generates client and server stub files. It also generates the server and client files (with just some outlines) inside which you can put in your code. Ex: rpcgen -C -a *.x c) Once you run the file then the there are files generated which look like this Ex: rpcgen -C -a date.x The above statement would produce these files date.x date_client.c date_server.c [url removed, login to view] date.h date_clnt.c date_svc.c Here the date.x is the interface file, date_clnt.c and date_svc.c are the client and server stubs respectively which u would have nothing to do with. Date_server.c, date_client.c are server and client files in which you would have to plug in your code. Finally makefile is where you write your code to automatically execute the all the files and produce corresponding executable file, so that whenever u type make at your command prompt all the necessary files are executed and the exe is generated.
