Each week the client hosts several events.
The client would like an application that only its employees can use in which they can send out a text/SMS and email message to all members signed up for an event and inform them of which table number the member will be seated at.
After discussing the platform options with the client (Mobile App or browser based and browser based optimized for Mobile devices/HTML 5), it was decided that a browser based application optimized for Mobile will work best. A browser based application optimized for Mobile devices can be used on any platform– Android, iPhone, Windows Phone, BlackBerry. Some of the employees have different types of mobile devise and therefore a browser based application optimized for Mobile will work best.
The application needs to work such that:
1. User will navigate to a URL via their mobile device
2. User will be prompted with a login prompt to login
3. After the user is logged in, they should see a list of upcoming events and then pick which event they want to send the text/SMS and email notifications to.
4. After the user selects the event, they should then be able to click a button that will send out the text/SMS and email notifications. When the user clicks on the button, they should be prompted with a pop-up box asking the to confirm sending out the notice, if they confirm, then the notifications should be sent out.
5. The text/SMS message should just tell the user which table number they are sitting out and also the text/SMS message should have some ability for the user to option out of receiving future test/SMS message. For example, the text/SMS message could say this:
Your table number for the [EVENT_NAME} event as [LOCATION] is table number [TABLE_NUMBER].
Reply with ‘STOP’ to no longer receive these messages.
6. If the user replies back to the text/SMS message with ‘STOP’, then we need to update their preferences in the database so they no longer receive any future text messages.
7. The email message will be similar. We can add more text to the email message and personalize the email since we can write more characters.
We need to also add an option out feature to the email.
8. For each message that we send out, we need to write this to an audit table for tracking purposes. It’s just to keep track of those messages that were sent.
9. The UI for this application should look similar to the look and feel of the current website the client uses. We will provide templates.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
The application needs to be browser based and optimized for a mobile device. For example, a user should be able to use the application from a laptop/desktop and it should also be optimized so that they can use it from a mobile device – mobile phone and a tablet.
The backend database is SQL server. A customer table contains all of the member’s preferences – i.e. email and text/SMS notifications. If someone wants to option out of receiving messages we just need to update this table. A stored procedure will be created that the application will use to update the customer table.
A view will be created that the application can use which will list all upcoming events, members signed up for those events, their contact information (Name, email, mobile phone number), the event location, and the table number they will be sitting at. The application can use this view to query any information related to upcoming events and member information.
The client has a server in-house running Windows Server 2008. If we decide to host on this server, then the application must be written in .NET. We don’t necessarily have to host the application on their server if technologies other than .NET will be used – i.e. python, Ruby, etc…
