Solve SQL Server SSMS connectivity issue

I am having a problem getting SSMS and Visual Studio to connect to a database on a hosting company's SQL Server. It has worked in the past but is now NOT working. The error is "network path not found", although I know this is not a legitimate error, since I can PING, TRACEROUTE and TELNET the SQL Server, plus my web site, also hosted on their servers, sees it just fine. This is an issue with my local setup, and I've tried everything, including turning off the Windows Firewall, and even reinstalling SSMS and Visual Studio. Nothing I've found thus far fixes the issue.
