1. Produce a graphic novel of 12 images to tell a story.
a. Research graphic novels. Study how each frame has a camera point of view, a
level of detail, a visual style. Complete in-class activities.
b. Find a news story about something that interests you.
c. Storyboard the 12 key images that will best tell this story. Note this is not a
drawing class - stick figures are fine, but the story board should show the
camera pov, the key elements in each frame.
d. Find images from the web and use Photoshop to manipulate and composite the
12 key images. (Key images should be 300 ppi, 1000 pixel high). Comicise the
images e.g. use the filters/blur/surface blur and the filters/filter
gallery/posterize on the images.
e. Lay the images out in a graphic novel page format (A4 format portrait – NOT
Landscape). Plan the size and layout of the frames – e.g. brick wall, varying size,
exploding frames
f. Add text (bubbles) and frames.
g. Include a title for your story at the top. At the bottom of the page include your
name and a web-link to the original story.
h. Optimize the image size and make a pdf file which includes:
1. Your research showing your analysis of the graphic novel examples
2. The news story you used for your story with url source
3. Your storyboard
4. Your 12 image Graphic Novel
