Clarification: It's fine to submit just one illustration to be judged. Once I have it narrowed it down to 3 people I will work with those people to determine the final price for all 11.
Any style can be submitted, I do not have a preference at this point.
I need 11 color illustrations for a story I want to tell. I have never worked with an illustrator before. The story is attached as a Word document.
If your work is chosen for publication, you will be given credit on the cover (if you like) and I will send you a book with a personalized thank you as a souvenir of your work (if you want it)
The book will be 5.5" wide by 8.5" tall. Each illustration gets a dedicated page.
The Rake will also be published online at www.TheRakeBook.com
If it proves successful, I will then order an animated video of the story, using the same characters as described below.
Characters
Little Peter/Son – in each illustration, based on boy in attached photo, curly blond hair, striped shirt
Big Peter/Dad – based on my Dad in the attached photo

Teddy – 2 toned, one eye missing, just like in the photo

If it helps, I can reenact the poses I have in mind and upload the photos.

As this contest will close tomorrow, I first what to thank all of you for making the judging of the illustrations difficult. There is a lot of great work and talent here. This is my first contest, so forgive me if I have the etiquette wrong, but I want to let you all know that at this point sarbod and studiokimus are in my top 3. I've posted a rough pencil sketch for the shocked and hurt expression I'm looking for to go along with the text “I was shocked and felt badly hurt. I could smell my blood. My eyes welled up with water. I wasn't crying, lets be clear about that.”

Hello i am triying to respond you message but the system don't work. Yes i can make all charaters. Once the characters are ready i can send the 11 ilustration . Tomorrow i will send you the scenes when only the girl and boy and the bear are. and a will start to ajust he requeriment sizes for the book. A hug

Reminder: The book will be 5.5 inches wide by 8.5" tall. Each color illustration gets it's own page. However it is ok if there is white space on the top and the bottom. Don't feel that every scene must fill the page. There is nothing wrong with that, but it's not a requirement.

For illustration 7: Dad crouched down talking son, one hand on shoulder, by the rake, wagon and teddy bear.
Please base it closely on the expressions and poses (Dad crouched down, holding son close, son holding Teddy close) in the original photo. I'm imagining the Dad holding the rake in his right hand.- 10 år siden

If you are planning to submit a second drawing, I'd like to see the 6th or 7th scene with my Dad.
The expressions on the face matter a lot to me. My Dad's expression will be a mixture of kindness, patience and bemusement.
Little boy's expression is mixture of righteous anger, pleading to higher authority. I know that is unclear, but hopefully that helps a bit.
Scene 3 is also one where the expression is very important.- 10 år siden

I agree with Chriskdougherty. 11 different illustrations will take around 4 days to finish them in proper quality.
So i think it has more sense if every freelancer will upload just one illustration and then you will choose with whom to continue.

Yes, Exactly what is required to enter the contest, 11 pages, in full detail is a lot to ask at a small chance among other artists. Would a cover and first page, "sample" be good enough to enter? surely whoever wins will collaborate with you to finish the job in a timely fashion.
