Introduction:
I'm creating this contest to have some talented artist produce a logo for the memorial scholarship fund I started in honor of my late father, Terry O'Reilly, who died of pancreatic cancer a little over a year ago. The Terry O'Reilly Memorial Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to promising young men and women who seek to play rugby at a high-caliber level at the collegiate level.
Background:
My father was 6'3" and a larger-than-life personality who somehow managed to combine his British upbringing (he moved to the US when he was 16 and always had a slight accent) with his adoption of all things cowboy, mannerisms and all. (He always wore a big cowboy hat and cowboy boots, even before he moved to Idaho.) He was a highly respected litigator and consumer rights advocate. (http://kevin.lexblog.com/2003/11/25/california-trial-lawyer-cited-for-his-good-work/) He also had many passions and side-pursuits, including a love of jazz music and ragtime bands, classic cars, and Roman/Byzantine history.
The nice thing about my dad was that he was generous to a fault and loved supporting deserving causes. He took many cases pro bono. He contributed to many jazz and music foundations in the SF Bay Area. And he was an avid, passionate supporter of rugby and devoted a colossal amount of time trying to make rugby a viable sport in America.
Goal:
I'm looking for a logo for the Scholarship Fund that can be used on letterhead and correspondence as well as on a public Facebook page. The logo would hopefully incorporate the name "Terry O'Reilly Memorial Scholarship Fund" somewhere in or around or beside the logo. I imagine several sizes and various resolutions would be helpful since the logo will be used in different contexts.
With that usage in mind, I'd like the logo to be rugby-related since it is a rugby scholarship fund. If the design can somehow reflect his eccentric and fun nature, so much the better. If you can do something to incorporate his image from one of the rugby photos, that would be fantastic.
As a related side project, if you can apply some photo-editing/artistic magic to make my father more prominent in his rugby photos, it would be great! They are old pics and it's hard to pick him out.

Unfortunately copied entries are rife on contests - I've reported copied ones of mine just this week. The only option is to submit sealed or wait until the last few minutes of a contest. Also report each entry that has copied especially when they submit that idea after you. Hopefully whoever wins this contest will be an original entry.

Agree.. I belive/ i know that traced images are not logos.. if they win that isnt my problem. But it would be sad, because that means: others have no respect for the hard working designer or for the original entry. Trust is what you can not buy.

Dear CH, please don't over emphasis on colors- it can be easily changed as per your likings. I think your Logo needs to be simple and aesthetic enough to be used as one colored or two colored versions and also in metal or stone as well as websites and seals. Please do consider taking another look at my designs especially the last ones. Thank you again for holding a beautiful Contest!

The contest has ended and I still need to review the remaining entries. I just want to say how moved I am by all of your heartfelt work. I am an amateur artist myself and I know how long it takes to make a submission, how personal artwork can be. Let me tell you that your entries are remarkable. Truly remarkable. The contest far exceeded my wildest expectations in terms of the diversity and quality of your work. There were so many unexpected ways you chose to take this logo--I can't believe how creative you all are!

This subject matter is obviously deeply personal to me, and I almost didn't start the contest because I was concerned it might trivialize the memory of my father. As we have reached the end, I see that the opposite is true--I asked you to create something uniquely beautiful, and that goal has been achieved. While there can be only one winner, I want all of you to know how much I appreciate your individual efforts. To the winner, I want you to know that your logo will help give a beautiful face to a very worthy cause, where 100% of the donations will go towards charitable scholarships. Thank you again to everyone. I'll decide a winner as quickly as I can. It will be a very difficult task.
