My work as a Research Fellow at Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) was under the broad domain of "rural-urban linkages", and the project that I was involved with, explored the inter linkages between India’s economic growth and the service consumption. My work majorly dealt with National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) Household Consumption expenditure data. An important aspect of this study has been to compare the expenditures for classes (as defined under the study) at both rural and urban level.My responsibility was two fold – first, to estimate these expenditures using the National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) data sets for three rounds (50th, 61st and 66th Round) and secondly to analyze the same. The estimation that I had undertaken involved extraction of NSSO data from the raw files. This was followed by consolidation of the consumption expenditures across various classes and various categories of goods and services. For the purpose of estimation and analysis, I used STATA 12 as the statistical package.
