Watercolour Illustration: 50's inspired
A collection of my personal watercolour illustrations, inspired by 1960’s science fiction films and advertising. This concept arose whilst studying the creative revolution in my second year at university.
About Me
Born and raised in Auckland, Renee Nielsen is a fresh design graduate with a passion for illustration. After completing her advanced diploma in Fine Art at Whitecliffe, Renee continued her studies grabbing a Bachelor of Media Design in 2015 majoring in Graphic Design, from Auckland's Media Design School. Renee is inspired by the particular aesthetic of retro, 60s science-fiction advertising - she finds the over the top, dramatised scenes simultaneously beautiful & humorous. Her creative process involves painting from 60s advertising and film stills, then re-contextualising them to produce works that are vibrant and reminiscent of a Pop-art aesthetic. Renee enjoys working with pencil, water colour and gouache, generally working on large format, paper works. Also skilled with Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
