I kept telling this guy he needs to program full time! Higher education has its merits, but school is for people who want to be employees for the rest of their life :). 1) His English communication skills are about equal native speaker. 2) Thoroughly reviewed requirements of the project BEFORE accepting project, and we discussed at length the expectations of both of us. He was the only bidder to follow instructions near 100%. Used the vWorker Private messaging board, google docs, screenshots, and other communication tools to illustrate ideas effectively. 3) Throughout project, Tarek did his best to be 100% clear about the current status of the code. This included re-writing requirements in his own words to clarify logically what needed to be implemented and pointing out potential conflicts. He offered almost daily updates with summaries of what was done to implement requirements. 4) His math/programming knowledge combined with trading/market knowledge showed that he had good command of the code. His ability to read and explain even parts of the code I forgot about the functionality. And he explained it in "trader-friendly" and laymen language. 4b) Implemented many suggestions that were not a part of the original requirements . He rarely made assumptions and always got in contact with me to confirm changes and could explain the impacts 5) Work ethic that Tarek displayed on project is one that most employers I know look for in their "go to" people. Attention to detail shown was incredible, often finding errors and not being ashamed to make suggestions for improvement. Any feedback that was given, Tarek went the extra mile to code or recode it properly until it was 110%. I knew from our first conversations during the bidding process, this guy was the one to go with. He wasn't the cheapest bid, but the price was more than reasonable for what was requested of him to do. I would hire him again for a similar (or any programming project). The only "pitfall" was that he had school, otherwise, we would have finished the project at least 1/4-1/3 the time shorter.
