URL pattern Generator & Checker
The Client had an Excel spreadsheet with over 15,000 rows of company names and needed an additional URL column to be populated. I first exported the Excel file to an XML file, next I wrote a PHP script that converted the names of the companies to URL patterns (adding www. to the beginning, making the company name lowercase & removing spaces, removing noise from the company names, and adding .co.za to the end), pinged each one, and added the valid URLs to the XML output by adding a child node for the current record. I then imported the output XML from the script back into Excel.
