I am Gaurav Kumar, currently working as a Business Analyst with “Banking, Financial Services and Insurance” Division of [login to view URL] Pvt. Ltd., a leading Knowledge Process Outsourcing firm based in Gurgaon, India. Apart from working as a Business Analyst I have also started writing financial articles for FinanceInsights as a freelance author.
As a Business Analyst I have been involved in a project with a leading European Financial Firm (with operations in Insurance, Investments and Reinsurance business) wherein I was involved with the firm’s strategy development team in preparing “Strategic Competitor Reviews” for various competitors (top European and American financial companies) of the firm. The work required strong presentation, analytical, financial and communication skills. The project required the coverage of various sources of information like Annual Reports, IFRS and SEC Fillings, Investor Presentations, Press Releases, Company Website, Analyst Reports and general secondary research. It also required data collection from various databases like OneSource, Hoovers, Reuters, Bloomberg and Thomson. My contribution in the project was more than 40%, in a span of just 2.5 months I was given the responsibility to review my peers work, due to my dedication towards work, my efficiency (I completed all the deliverables within the prescribed time limits) and my analytical skills. The reviews were drafted in the form of Presentations (30-40 slides) and Microsoft Word Reports (30-40 pages) with information about the following segments:
Ø Background Information: Information related to the company background and operations
Ø Strategy and Financial Objectives: Contained information about various strategies undertaken by the company
Ø Financial Analyses: Contained information and reasons about various financial movements of the company
Ø Product Innovation: Provided information about various innovative products launched by the company
Ø Quality of Service: Contained information about various strategies relating to customer retention and satisfaction
Ø Branding and Marketing: Provided in-depth information about various marketing and branding strategies
Ø Capital Management: Contained information about the capital structure and capital management initiatives
Ø Risk Management: Highlighted the various risk management initiatives undertaken by the company
Ø SWOT analysis: Provided information about Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats related to the company
As a Freelance author I have prepared one article on “Unit Linked Insurance Policies (ULIPs)”. The work requires strong analytical, writing, financial and quantitative skills.
Prior to working I have done my Bachelors’ of Technology from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, India with specialization in Aerospace Engineering. As I have mentioned in my resume during my bachelors degree I undertook four courses in Economics (Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Industrial Economics and Environmental Economics). I have also cleared four modules of National Stock Exchange’s Certification in Financial Markets (NCFM) namely Financial Overview, Derivatives, Capital markets and Securities Markets.
I have been a consistent performer through out my educational career and have received national level scholarships. I have qualified in National Talent Search Examination, 2001 (a national level examination conducted by Government of India) and Regional Mathematics Olympiad twice (2000, 2001). Also in my bachelors’ program I received the “Best Bachelors’ of Technology Project” award for academic session 2003-2007.
