Architectural Conservation Project
Military Museum, St. Dymphna's, Carlow. Our second studio project of third year involved some conservation work. We took an old church from the grounds of Carlow Hospital, which is now a military museum, and proposed to turn it into a mixed use development involving minimal intervention to the existing structure and using good-practice design details. The accommodation was to include: Office space Restaurant/coffee shop Bar Craft Shops Small Exhibition Space The program involved going to the museum, surveying it using instruments and photographs, draw up the building as it stands from our survey, then come up with a proposal to include the above accommodation. Once the new design was finalised with the lecturers, it was drawn up in elevation, plan and section, then expanded to include 1:5 scale construction details. About Me
I have an Honours Degree in Architectural Technology, while at the moment I'm working on a Masters in renewable energy. I've done a variety of work over the past few years, including extensive freelance web and graphic design. The main reason for joining Freelancer is to make some extra money to get me though college, but also to get experience doing different types of work and working with different people.
