This project's aim is to retrieve free data with distance information provided from opensource mapping services, with the intention to derive a street network suitable for pedestrian routing, to assess the needs for routing of service-technicians in the Old Town of Salzburg (Austria). The methods for creating a pedestrian network proposed by this project are based on representing the network by a medial axis and by a skeleton. The pedestrian network sets the application area for Dijkstra's algorithm to calculate the shortest path. Both networks are evaluated according their performance in the shortest path calculation and the most efficient network participates in the distance matrix creation. The final output of the project is a distance matrix with the distances between the points of interest which in this case are the number of all households with in the Old Town of Salzburg.

About Me

Growing up in an environment where engineering was highly regarded, I grew interested in this exciting field and decided to pursue a BSc in Geomatics and Survey. I graduated from the Technological Educational Institute of Serres with the skills that allowed me to get my hands dirty, interact with nature and engage in stimulating work. I have always regarded surveying as the pioneering work on which other engineers and professionals start to build upon, the foundations of the foundations. I learned how to work out a plan and then proceed successfully, coping with unexpected situations in the field. During my studies I gained experience in Surveying and in GIS science, conducting field measurements and providing Decision Support, Data Analysis, and Mapping. I completed my postgraduate studies in Spatial Information Management of the Geoinformation department of Carinthia University of Applied Science as I consider that the way to further develop the understanding of space and the means to manipulate spatial data in a more effective way is through Geoinformation science.
