Bio Dissatisfied with my choice to pursue a PhD in Literature, I was seduced into the MFA program in Creative Writing at LSU by Andrei Codrescu, who serves as my mentor and tormentor. As a student in the first blush of post-graduate poverty, I foolhardily began to ask magazines if I could write for them. Some said yes. Some even paid me. Increased self-confidence accompanied by the absurd assumption that people pay writers pushed me onward, and a freelance wordsmith was born. Since those first heady days, I have written on subjects ranging from the gourmet appeal of farmer’s markets to reviews of handbags that cost more than I make in a year. Trained as an anthropologist, I have excellent interviewing skills. And, as a recovering academic, I have a strong research background, am close to grammatical perfection, and am comfortable writing on a wide swath of subjects. My favorites are fashion, style, arts, culture, and personal essays. I am a pop culture junkie with an intellectual bent, and would love to write for anyone who allows me to be both smart and also fashion-obsessed at the same time.
