Since 2012 I've developed and maintained a Home Automation/IoT software/hardware suite for the Raspberry Pi called ElectroPi. Comprised of PHP/jQuery with a Python backend, ElectroPi allows users to control many RF/WiFi based appliances and switches from their mobile phone. It even keeps track of when you're home or not, and applies predefined lighting schemes to compensate. Lights when you're home, dark when you're not. Never touch a filthy light switch again.
