Abu Maruf is a writer and essayist. He studied social work in his first degree and achieved his Master of Arts with Distinction in International Social Work and Community Development. Along with other THINK members he contributes to improve local health and social care services in Tower Hamlets London. In 2011, University of East London awarded him the 'Field Academic Excellence' prize in the field of social work. Maruf is about to start his Creative Writing courses at University of Oxford this October. Maruf as a member of ENGLISH PEN promotes freedom of expression and helps to spread new literature across frontiers. He loves to write on contemporary issues and raise awareness amongst the public. His works are concerned with many connections, disruptions and migrations between East and West. His first book, "Forced Marriage", attracted readers from different backgrounds. The book was also criticized for challenging some elements of culture and tradition in Muslim community.
