By employing an adaptive gain in the IBVS control method, the chance of image feature loss is reduced, and performance and stability of the vision-guided vehicle control system are improved. The IBVS module generates the reference side slip velocity and the yaw angle rate. The reference velocities generated by IBVS are fed to a low level tracking controller which employs Model Predictive Control. We present a novel method to integrate the 2 DOF bicycle vehicle dynamic model with IBVS. Kalman filter is used to estimate instantaneous side slip ratio using noisy data from GPS and IMU. The Newton’s polynomial method is employed for extrapolation to compensate for the data rate difference between GPS and IMU. The working simulation of the system is implemented in Webots software. Simulation results performed at high vehicle speeds show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
