Develop a new electronic version of hard copy pattern cards (with technical information and color samples). In the past we produced an A4 sized folder with some general information and 1 page for each dye with it properties and dyes samples.
In the future we would like to distribute the technical data of the dye ranges in electronic form.
We would start the project with one dye range but need the option to add new ranges in the future. The addition of a new range should create a minimum of additional work (and expenses).
Focus should be on simplicity of the applications (we sell to an extremely traditional industry) and flexibility during maintenance (preferably done in-house).
Important Requirements:
-The application must be able to cross-compare datasets (eg. Basic set of properties exists for all ranges. The application must be able to display any number of properties for two or more ranges and display them accordingly.
-Data will be provided in excel format. The application must be able to access the information from the excel sheets and present them within an interface.
-Application needs to be very flexible and easy to update. Maintenance and adding new ranges should be easy enough to do in-house after the application is built.
-The application and data need to be accessible via a cd-rom as a standalone application. The application should be flexible enough to work on a desktop from a hard-drive or run directly from a cd-rom. Needs to work on older systems like windows 98, 2000 as well as new systems.
-Design, look and feel for the interface will be provided.
We seek experienced developers in database programming and/or xml/flash with good references and smart, creative solutions. Emphasis is on ease of maintenance for the application, and ability to use data sets in excel format to update the application. Reliability, professionalism, references will be key components of the winning bid.
