Minimalist WordPress Homepage Customization

I’d like to strip my WordPress site down to a clean, reading-first layout. Here’s exactly what I need you to implement: • The homepage shows one large, featured post centred on the screen. • Directly underneath, the next recent posts appear in a neat list with thumbnails and their publication date—no view counts, likes or extra meta. • A magnifying-glass search icon sits on the right of the header, but only on the homepage. • All existing menus and nav items are moved off-canvas (or otherwise hidden) so the page stays perfectly minimal while still being accessible if I ever want to restore them. Please handle this in a child theme or via safe theme overrides so future updates won’t break the changes. A little custom PHP, CSS and maybe a tweak to the template hierarchy should be all that’s required; no heavy plugins, just lightweight, maintainable code. Deliverable: updated theme files (or a small plugin), plus any custom CSS/JS snippets and brief install steps. Once the homepage looks and behaves exactly as described, the task will be complete.
