We need to detect mobile devices that have WiFi turned on. The mobile devices are not connected to our WiFi network. The mobile devices never connected before to our WiFi network. The WiFi network is unknown for the mobile devices. We need to detect mobile devices that have WiFi turned on (not connected). You need to detect using a software or hardware SDR mobile devices that have WiFi turned on. Why? Your mobile device automatically connects to a WiFi network that is known by the OS, as WiFi settings. The modem overall detects always every WiFi network and detects if it can / is allowed connect to the WiFi network. If credentials match it will connect automatically (when is set automatically). We will not receive any data (mac-addresses) I expect, but the detection of a WiFi modem on a mobile phone should be enough. You have experience with WiFi ? Can you help us with WiFi detection?

Hi, basically I know what do you mean and what do you need. Every Wi-Fi client device (the phones for example) continuously send probe requests to identify if a given network is nearby (when Wi-Fi enabled). It is a part of scanning of available APs by device. Probe requests still contain standard MAC headers. You will need a special device or PC/laptop with Wi-Fi card/module capable to collect this information. Basically all Wi-Fi modules can collect this information but the majority of manufacturers of this modules disable the possibility to get this information. It seems like a nice project. I have done something similar before. As I saw your project, I double-check my reports and files to check the conditions of that project. First you need to clarify some points about the definition of the project and be more specific about it. Considering the assumption of everyone has a smartphone with WiFi/Bluetooth on, You want to count people, or measure the congestion, or count the traffic? or you want to log people, or track people? Any specification of the project in this regard can significantly affect the solution. And how vast is the area you want to collect these info form? Is it in the range of an access point or a network of access points is needed to collect the packets/info?
