NOTE: This project will pay with a percentage of profits from Google ads. I will incur this website's project completion fee.
I'm a professional PHP / MySQL programmer that has been working on a hobby project for fighting game statistics for the last few weeks. I've been delayed from further work, because the guy that does my XHTML for me at work at my company has stood me up on the design work for this project (he's too busy for it), so I'm looking for someone to take his spot.
I need a quality designer that can do the following:
* Make a nice, clean layout.
* Mastered CSS2.
* Mastered XHTML (WC3 Standard: Transitional if not Strict)
You'll need to be able to do the work by hand, without relying entirely on a WYSWIG as it'll be used in a templating engine and will need to be concise and efficient.
Also, enthusiasm towards what this site will become and will offer the fighting game community is important to me. I want someone who believes in their work.
The site will be an indepth statistics engine for fighting game characters. At first, it will only cover Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, but, as it matures, we'll be able to add new games to it with minimal effort. It will use the ELO statistical system - as is used with Chess federations and Go leagues - to calculate precise skill ratings and even predict the outcome of future matches. ELO has proven to be the best way to measure skill in games where few variables exist. I've already written the formulas to handle SF3 and its unique set of variations as well as the entire framework and base API for the entire site.
The web designer will be given full creative authority as far as interface design is concerned. The system will be using the Smarty templating engine, however, previous knowledge of this engine is not necessary.
The first stable release will be relatively small. It will comprise of an interface to edit and browse 5 data objects.
The site will always be free to the community to access. It's main source of income will be advertising. That's not much, but I think that I have a winner and it should pay out over time. More importantly, I think it will offer a much needed service to fighting gamers.
My deal is that the designer will take home 50 percent of the gross advertising income. I won't be screwing anyone by adding expenses beforehand, etc. If he decides he doesn't want to do further work on it, he'll keep 33 percent gross for as long as the website exists. Period. The other 33 will go to the new designer that will take his place. I don't really see a designer ditching after finishing though, any new new additions would be small and will drive up his income directly. Also, I will -always- have a designer on retainer, whether he's needed or not. So you have my word that I won't dump you and say: "Seeya, here's your 33 percent, I'm the designer now."
People interested should post a few examples of their work.
I will be upfront about how I judge: I'm picky. I like artisans who know design as well as the language itself. If I see layout alignment using TABLE tags instead of DIV tags, I won't be interested. I'll be running WC3 checks, but that won't necessarily be a disqualifying factor in itself.
Generic bids / PMBs will be ignored.
I need to make sure you're reading and understanding this post because:
THIS PROJECT WILL NOT PAY THE BIDS LISTED.
Again, it will split 33% gross Google Ad income permanent (upon completion) and 50% as long as the the designer acts as a retainer.
