We are looking to have someone write a script / app that will import data from one database / spreadsheet into it’s proper placement into our site’s existing MsSql 2005 database.
Here’s more details on the task we are trying to achieve.
We are an online record store. For each product in the store, we have the following fields which we fill out for every product that is added to the database:
Now, we recently added a “UPC (barcode #)” field to all products, so this field is empty for all existing products.
We have excel / database files that we obtained from the manufacturers, which list mostly the same fields we use, but also has the corresponding UPC #.
The script would need to compare the artist from the manufacturer’s database to the artist in our database, and if a match is made, then it would move onto the album title, and if that matches, then it would compare the record label field and if that matches, then it would copy the UPC # from the manufacturer’s database and insert it into the corresponding spot in the UPC field for that particular product in our database.
Now – there are some exceptions that would have to be noted, else the number of correct matches will be significantly small. PLEASE VIEW THE ATTACHED DOCUMENT for a more comprehensive overview of potential errors as well as a list of exceptions that will need to be made to avoid these possible errors. There are also samples of the excel files / database that you will be running the script against.
Now, I understand to get complete accuracy will be virtually impossible, so I’m not looking for 100% accuracy, but something that would generate approximately 85%-90% accurate results would be sufficient.
Also – if you need help figuring out the structure of our current database since it uses a custom built system, should you have any questions about the design and structure of the cart and database, the original programmer of the cart will be available over email and sometimes AIM / Yahoo IM to answer any questions to assist you in completing this project.
For payment, I will pay through the escrow system, or via paypal if you'd like after full completion of the job.
