Three of my home machines now run Ubuntu and I want a seasoned Linux hand to connect in remotely, sort out the rough edges, and walk me through the process when I ask. English has to be your native tongue because we will talk by phone while you work; I’m a retired electrical engineer and like to understand what is happening—though at times I will simply say “just fix it”. Current pain points include system-level errors, software installation headaches, and network or sharing glitches. Practical items on the to-do list range from cleaning up bloated menus and duplicate entries, correcting wrong screen resolutions, tightening power-management and startup behaviour, removing leftover operating systems, configuring reliable backups, to recommending and setting up new applications. You will: • Remote into each of the three Ubuntu computers (SSH, AnyDesk or similar—your choice). • Resolve the identified bugs and configuration issues so the systems run cleanly. • Explain your steps when I request it so I can reproduce them later. • Leave concise notes or scripts for any repeatable fixes. If this first round goes smoothly, I expect to reach out for future sessions whenever something crops up.

Hello, Adam from New Jersey here. Thank you for the clear brief. I am a senior Linux administrator and a native English speaker, and cleaning up three Ubuntu machines while explaining what I am doing as we go is exactly the kind of work I enjoy, especially with someone who likes to understand the how. I would remote in with SSH or AnyDesk, whichever you prefer, and work through your list: system errors, install issues, menu and duplicate-entry cleanup, screen resolution, power management and startup behaviour, removing leftover operating systems, backups, and setting up new applications. As an engineer you will appreciate that I fix the cause, not just the symptom, and I keep changes reversible so nothing new breaks. On backups in particular I would set up something reliable and automatic, tested by doing a real restore, since a backup you have never restored is not really a backup. For anything worth repeating, I leave you concise notes or a small script, so you can do it yourself next time or hand it to me quickly. I am happy to work with you live so I can talk through each step as you asked, and say when you would rather I just fix it. Happy to start with whichever machine is giving you the most trouble. Thanks, Adam.

Good day! Three Ubuntu machines with system errors, display, startup, power, networking, and software issues need hands-on troubleshooting rather than one-size-fits-all fixes. I’ll work through each system methodically and keep changes understandable, with explanations whenever you want the “why” behind them. My approach: remote access → system diagnostics → package/software cleanup → display & boot fixes → power/startup tuning → network/sharing → OS remnants → backup setup → application configuration → testing → concise fix notes/scripts. I’m a Top 1% Verified Freelancer with 9+ years of experience and 450+ completed projects, with hands-on Linux administration, Ubuntu troubleshooting, SSH, networking, system configuration, and backup setup. Would you prefer SSH or AnyDesk for the first session?

Hi, I am a DevOps Engineer, have hands-on Linux/Ubuntu experience with system troubleshooting, package/software installation, networking and file sharing, display resolution, startup services, and automated backups. I’ve also managed Ubuntu servers and Docker-based systems, including diagnosing service, permission, networking, and configuration problems. I have anydesk and RustDesk remote tool. But English is not my native language. just conversational. First I will check each machine’s current state, fix the priority issues without making unnecessary changes, then clean up old menu entries/packages and configure backups and other improvements. For repeatable tasks, I can leave you simple commands, notes, or scripts. I’m comfortable working with someone who wants to understand the technical details, so feel free to ask questions while I work. Let’s start with the first Ubuntu machine and work through the three systems one by one. Thanks

Hi, Serdar here from The Colony. I understand the setup: three Ubuntu machines with accumulated rough edges — menu clutter, wrong resolutions, power and startup behaviour, network sharing, leftover operating systems, backups — worked through remotely while we talk, with explanations when you want them and notes for anything repeatable. The one item I'd handle most carefully is removing leftover operating systems. If those are old Windows or Linux installs sharing the disk, the risk isn't the partition — it's the bootloader. GRUB frequently lives on or points at the partition being removed, and deleting it leaves an unbootable machine. Recoverable, but not over the phone with someone who now can't get to a desktop. So that one gets a backup and a verified live USB ready before anything is touched. Backups I'd do first, actually, before any of the cleanup. It makes everything else lower-risk, and it's the item most likely to matter someday. On working style — explaining as I go suits me. You'll understand the reasoning behind changes rather than just having them done, which for an engineer usually means fewer future sessions rather than more. Questions: Q1 – Which Ubuntu version and desktop — GNOME, KDE? Q2 – Are the leftover OS installs on the same disk as Ubuntu? Q3 – Is there existing backup hardware, or should I recommend some? Timeline: a 2–3 hour first session per machine. Budget: hourly, roughly $100–200. Best, Serdar

Hello!⚡ Thank you for listing the symptoms so precisely. I would be glad to get all three machines running cleanly, and I am happy to talk through each step as I work. I recently cleaned up a set of Ubuntu desktops end to end: duplicate menu entries, stale boot entries, display modes and a proper two-layer backup. How I will run it: 1. Baseline each machine first, journal errors, boot timings and package state, so we fix things in the order that actually bothers you. 2. Duplicate menu entries almost always mean the same application installed twice as snap, apt and flatpak. Remove the redundant copy, then tidy the remaining desktop entries. 3. Clear stale GRUB and EFI boot entries left by the old operating systems, then confirm a clean boot menu. 4. Set display modes so they survive a reboot rather than needing a command each time. 5. Backups in two layers: system snapshots so a bad change can be rolled back, and a separate backup of your files. A snapshot tool alone is not a data backup. 6. Notes and small scripts for anything repeatable, explained as we go. Thanks. Hassan
