Apache2 server consultation

I need some consultation I setting up apache to work with some web apps. Here is what I'm looking to do:

1. Have a virtual host pointing to a simple site

2. Have dynamic virtual host files for each app pointing to a directory where multiple clients of the web app will exist.

Essentially this is how I would like it to work.

[url removed, login to view] -> /home/mycompany/site/

[url removed, login to view] -> /home/mycompany/apps/app1/sites/client1/

[url removed, login to view] -> /home/mycompany/apps/app1/sites/client2/

[url removed, login to view] -> /home/mycompany/apps/app1/sites/client3/

For the client sites, I assume it can be done using wildcards in a virtual host file? This way I don't need to append new settings to the vhosts file everytime there's a new client.

One last thing is I'd like to have preview urls as well. So I should be able to look at [url removed, login to view] by going to [url removed, login to view]~[url removed, login to view]

I have a rackspace cloud server and I'm using Ubuntu karmic server.
