Need a PE to review and stamp my drawings for the installation of 2 triangle windows in the gable end wall of a full log home built about 1980 in Charlotte near Lake Norman. I am a NC Licensed Residential Contractor and will be responsible for the window installation. Also need PE to review/design/stamp drawings for 2 basement egress windows to be installed in same house on opposite sides of 24' wide basement. To have approx. 3'w x 6' h egress window x 6' d to existing ground level. A different NC Licensed Contractor will be responsible for the egress window installation but we will be working together on both parts of the project for the homeowner. It is imperative that the PE selected will NOT adhere to the whimsical and radical "requirements" of the Charlotte Mecklenburg County Building Inspections Dept. but shall know the power of their own review/Code requirements and stamp/signature. They have already indicated to a different PE that they "want" steel reinforcing on both sides of the egress window openings. This is NOT required in a residential single story home per NC Building Code - it may be for commercial buildings. They CANNOT dictate to you as a PE what is required by Code - and you must be aware of that.

Hello, I have experience supporting residential structural reviews for window openings, log-home framing conditions, basement egress cuts, and permit-ready reinforcement details. I am interested in this project because the gable-end triangle windows and basement egress openings need a practical NC code-based review that protects the homeowner without adding unnecessary work. I do not personally hold North Carolina PE licensure, but I can provide stamped results through a North Carolina-licensed Professional Engineer with active licensure. I will review the drawings, log wall conditions, foundation walls, proposed openings, loads, and contractor scopes, then prepare or revise the details and calculations needed for signed and sealed submission. If the county comments on reinforcing or other items, I will respond with clear engineering reasoning and keep the package professional, code-based, and defensible. Thanks for reading my proposal. Structural integrity in 1980s log construction requires precision, particularly when navigating the specific nuances of gable end modifications and sub-grade basement egress requirements. Providing a comprehensive engineering review for these four window locations involves a rigorous assessment of current NC Building Code standards to ensure safety while upholding the professional autonomy of the Engineer of Record. My methodology focuses on objective code compliance, ensuring that structural requirements for these openings—including header sizing and load path verification—are based on verified engineering calculations rather than administrative overreach. By prioritizing documented code compliance for the log-wall gable integration and the basement egress structural support, the design will meet all safety mandates required for official stamping. Ensuring the egress configurations avoid unnecessary structural steel reinforcements where not mandated by residential code will maintain project efficiency and adherence to the primary building standards. How do the existing foundation blueprints or available wall cross-sections delineate the current load-bearing conditions for the basement egress areas?

Hello, I am interested in assisting with the structural review and engineering for the proposed window modifications at the Lake Norman residence. My understanding is that the project involves reviewing and stamping drawings for two new triangular windows in the existing gable end wall of a full log home, as well as evaluating and designing two basement egress window openings on opposite sides of the foundation wall. For the gable-end windows, I will review the existing wall and roof framing conditions, verify load paths, and provide any required structural details associated with the new openings. For the basement egress windows, I will assess the existing foundation wall, determine the necessary lintel/header and reinforcement requirements, and prepare a code-compliant structural design based on the actual conditions and applicable North Carolina Residential Code provisions. My approach is to provide an independent engineering evaluation grounded in sound structural practice and code compliance. Any recommendations or details included in the final drawings will be based on the project requirements, site conditions, and applicable codes rather than assumptions. The goal is to provide a clear, defensible design package suitable for permit review and construction. Best regards,
