I want to perform a meta-analysis on a spesific topic. Can you help me through this process. An experienced statistician is needed. I can provide a similar paper, the ananlysis is simple but I don't know the meta-analysis procedure. RevMan or R or a similar program will be used for the analysis.
At the attachment you can find a guide how to perform a meta-analysis for proportions. For my project, I want to analyze not proportions but success rate of a surgical operation. (for example Lee et al. reported 90% cure rate, Baker et al. reported 70% cure rate). I will make the literature review and build an excell table for the results of the manuscripts. The rest will be yours to build a meta-analysis forestplot. So your job will be straightforward. After making the forestplot, I will need your help to write what we do (for the materials and methods section of my manuscript).
Any other of your contribution to the manuscript will be welcomed. In example I am not sure how to do the "risk of bias" evaluation. Since these are not RCTs, Cochrane risk of bias tool would not be suitable for my project. Some papers used custom made tools like "Since there was no appropriate method by which to assess the risk of bias of the included studies, an appraisal tool to evaluate the methodological quality was generated by the authors". If you can also guide me for these steps, it would be better. But, fistly I need your work for generation of the forest plot.
To sum up:
1. I made the literature review and I will build an excell table to represent the included studies (Like in the Table 1 of Bozdag et al.) This is my job.
2. I will need your help to make the forest plot. (Like in the Figure 2 of Bozdag et al.)
3. I will need your help to write the materials and methods. There are some trics like: "Meta-analysis was performed using metafor package version 1.9–5 in R 3.0.0
software. The Freeman–Tukey double arcsine transformation was applied for
normalizing and variance stabilizing of the proportions sampling distribution.
This transformation also provided confidence limits of proportions between
zero and one. Cochran’s Q-test and Higgins’ I2 statistics were used to assess
the heterogeneity among studies. Since heterogeneity was observed among
studies, the random-effects model of DerSimonian and Laird was used ...."
4. After finishing all of them, we can work additionally to assess my risk of bias evaluation process. This step is needed to make a high quality puplication. But first I need to build a forest plot to show to my Professor.
