I have uploaded a 100% validated ePub file to Smashwords but I am receiving the following obnoxious error message :
File 'META-INF/[url removed, login to view]' in EPUB not listed in manifest!
Your .epub file is missing one or more elements in its manifest. A complete manifest is required for distribution to Apple. Here's how Wikipedia ([url removed, login to view]) defines "Manifest":"The manifest element lists all the files contained in the package. Each file is represented by an item element, and has the attributes id, href, media-type. All XHTML (content documents), stylesheets, images or other media, embedded fonts, and the NCX file should be listed here."
I will send you my ePub file so you can see what I've done, and also send the InDesign package--in which everything is ready for export. But there's one extra step. I used graphics at the head of each chapter in the book and ID was not able to create the toc with links that worked properly because of that. So I hyperlinked the chapters manually and exported, then opened it up in Sigil where I was was able to easily generate the toc to the chapters. For some reason, Sigil wanted to make the Acknowledgment page the toc ans I had to change the semantics first, so watch out for that. I actually can do the toc part in Sigil if you can fix the ePub coming from ID so the Manifest is correct. i don't know at which point the manifest becomes incomplete or incorrect.
I warn you, I'm extremely picky. I do not tolerate sloppy or half-asssed work and I insist on good communications, even for a simple job like this.
