The overall goal of this project is to perform automated parametric studies to reduce the drag-coeficient of various geometries.
The optimization will be guided by a solver written in Python. The drag-coefficient of a geometry modified by the python solver will be computed by function call to the CFD routine.
The task herein is concerned with scripting a free or inexpensive CFD solver to compute the drag-coefficient of a given geometry.
The deliverable is a script callable from Python which computes the Coefficient of Drag of a given geometry.
The CFD software used will be per the recommendation of the freelancer and to be mutually agreed upon by the freelancer and myself.
The CFD software to be used is however to be free and/or open source and/or relatively inexpensive to procure a license for.
The solver needs only to produce solutions in 2D
For the initial foray into this project, the drag coefficient of a simple nosecone is to be computed. The shape of the nose cone will be defined in python and passed to the CFD solver. The data structure to manage the hand-off of geometry between python and the CFD package can be discussed.
