We need a custom, ULTRA reliable software OS written for the Raspberry Pi 512Mb and RPi 5mp camera board to operate un-attended in the field. The setup will be required to: 1. Snap 2 to 3 photos per second at full 5Mp resolution forever. 2. Have a never ending record loop that deletes the first photo taken as the last one is written. 3. Be 99,9% reliable and robust. So barebones, minimal programming. 4. Run automatically upon boot. And recover in the case of a power failure. The objective is for the camera to hold as much footage as we can at a time on a 32Gb or 64Gb SD card, to take photos of a fixed location 24hrs a day until footage may be required. The ideal situation would be to record a 5Mp image, twice every second, at approx 500kb per image, indefinitely. The camera and Pi will be placed in a weather sealed box, with a 5-10W @ 12v solar panel and lithium battery.

Hello, I can write a C++ program for you that will take pictures from the Raspberry Pi camera in a loop. If you are interested to work with me we can discuss the details. Thanks, Paul

Hi, I have worked on several raspiberry pi projects including automated box configuration that will start custom program after boot and will work remotely. This project looks like remote picture logging. Here we need a batch script or php script to drive taking pictures periodically and saving it uniquely. If you want to restrict the number of images then we can implement discard-able queue where we can keep 'n' entries in circular queue fashion. Thanks!

Hi Mate, Few questions and things: 1. Snap 2 to 3 photos per second at full 5Mp resolution forever. >I don't think the picamera reaches 3 FPS at full 5 mpix. I have achieved 1.6 FPS to a ram disk so I think to the SD it should be less than 1 per second. It is just a physical limitation. 2. Have a never ending record loop that deletes the first photo taken as the last one is written. >Easy. 3. Be 99,9% reliable and robust. So barebones, minimal programming. >Well... what I am going to propose to you is to use python or C# (I prefer C# mono, it runs a runtime but I have several services running since months without issues, one even runs in an australian motorplex to display karting results) 4. Run automatically upon boot. And recover in the case of a power failure. > Easy. The main issue is with the Pi itself, if there are too many power failures = sd may get corrupted. Happened to me.

Good morning, 2-3 (500k) images per second being written to the SD card is going to be next to impossible. could you be more specific as to what you are trying to accomplish? Is it to monitor and see if a bad bug shows up? what about the wrap-around photos? Is it going to act like a plane's black box? how do you stop something from being erased that you might want to keep? Give me some more details. I have a PI but not a camera. But if you can plug your PI into your router and put your PI in the DMZ, I can log into your pi and do the work. I would suggest using Raspbian Linux. It is a full version of Debian and will have the ability to load all the software needed (i.e. development tools, etc). Mark

I'm going to develop a custom Linux distrubtion for your board, it will boot Linux and start minimal applications for image capturing. Since it will be a custom distribution, it will have minimal and simple boot scripts, no more than 2-3 scripts. Application will be developed using Qt core libraries using C/C++. It will be a simplistic but robust and reliable application. Source code will not be more 300-500 lines of code, depending on the detailed functionality requested. I'll setup 512 Mb Pi with 5mp camera board and perform development on your identical setup so that I can provide you out of the box working filesystem images. I'll also provide with tools to prepare SD/MMC cards for production. SD cards will be using multi-partition scheme and OS related codes will reside on different partitions than captures images. OS partitions will be read-only so that any possible risk of failure will be minimized.
