I'm looking for a VPS Server but the MANAGED PLAN is over my Budget as I only wish to host a Non-Profit/Donation website. I hosted the Site though I ran out of DiskSpace & wish to re-start the site w/out the hiccups. The Shared Host is n the same Co. as the VPS Linux Server for ease.
A) Set-up the VPS Linux Server (ie. Initial Server Setup Admin) - Installing ALL Modules required, & those popular modules that may be needed for future use. The Host will advise on & give you needed assistance, A Sys Admin who does the Managed VPS for the Host of whom I've been a client for 5yrs will check to make sure everything is in order, as with this setup sometimes minor details or modules may be overlooked accidently, so a check over cant hurt to make sure all is running & put together as required.
B) Move existing FTP files, mySQL DB, phpBB3 Script (or if possible if there is a Porting script from phpBB -> vBulletin or IPBoard (or similar) to keep up with the demand as I have seen the data on a number of other Forums and hey are quicker in loading times, DB queries & other important areas such as security - THAT IS IF POSSIBLE. THOUGH I'm happy with phpBB3 as it has a number of Modules to keep a great contender.
C) Wordpress simple install is needed (no extras, just basic 5 minute install). Any Modules available with phpBB (no more than 5) Though if phpBB is ported to VBulletin (hopeful, & I'm sure its possible with VB & IPBoard) by running a script adding the necessary mySQL DB's & transferring the old phpBB DB's to new named DB's (same goes for IPBoard) then deleting the remainder of the phpBB mySQL DB's. If this is the case these are a number of Modules for VBulletin & IPBoard (depending on which is selected) numbering up to 5-10+ (though most will not be needed as many are blogging modules & eStore catalogues. These will need to be installed - ONLY IF WE CHOOSE TO GO THIS WAY, THOUGH I WILL LIKELY SELECT A SPECIALIST IN PHP/mySQL Forum Installation for this Module Installation as it is difficult to get the set-up correct. I myself have over 13yrs+ in PHP/mySQL/Perl Installation, Modification and Coding and do not feel comfortable working with IPBoard/VBulletin modules & installing, as I have zero knowledge, however I have over 10yrs experience in all aspects of phpBB.
YOU'RE MAIN CONCERN IS SETTING UP THE SERVER FOREMOST, maybe some other minor script installs.
D) I will need a collection of Video Tutorials, Learning Guides, eBooks etc so I can teach myself over time rather than having to hire somebody (& waste valuable downtime) when the server has issues as we have no room for downtime being a non-profit organization.- If you are knowledgeable of any such information or VPS Server Set-Up/Maintenance literature at Amazon etc, I would be happy to be pointed to them, though google should be a help if you're unclear EVENTUALLY we hope to get a System Admin Volunteer as we have a Sponsor & Volunteers (Part/Full-Time/Student) who help out with a variety of our projects - MAINLY Web Development/Web Design/Web Coding/Illustration for our 'United Open Development Project Initiative' a.k.a "Intl. Open Devs Projects Group"
I MUST be pointed out how to learn Managing VPS Linux Servers so they can be maintained to run scripts w/ ebooks & tuts explaining the ins-&-outs of those who manage VPS' for a living -though obviously the most advanced techniques will require course/book study & hired VPS experts in the meantime in case things get 2 advanced. I would like to hire the Win Bidder on occasion for complicated issues with VPS maintenance & upgrades
VPS EXPERIENCE - ADMIN & MAINTENANCE IS A MUST- YOU'LL BE SEMI-TEACHING a Shared Host User. Including above part of this PROJECT is 4 you 2 Show Step-by-Step the outcome of a prob & solution should arise & not be understood as the "Student" will be taking NOTES (any info given appreciated eg. which tuts, books, vid tuts etc that will help).
