Both literature and film are the most important parts of my artistic (and professional) life, so I believe we'd make a good team for this project. The one thing I'm confused about here is what the actual task is: are you offering 100 GBP to read your novel and then offer my thoughts on its screenplay potential, or 100 GBP for both reading the novel AND writing a screenplay? The former seems more reasonable, and if I did decide that your novel was worth adapting into a screenplay, I'd be willing to write the screenplay myself for an additional fee. Would you be wanting to do this with a focus on the characters, or are the scenes just as important? Also, how long is the book? It will need to be condensed down to around 100-150 pages to keep the length of a movie. I would need a copy of the book to do a read through. I am a second year English major, going for my Masters. I have been writing for over 20 years and have done several script-writing projects - most of them for stage but I have had a couple produced on local television. I am creative, quick-witted and this shows in my work. For your project I will be using Final Draft - if that is okay with you. To begin with I will read your novel and then discuss specific requirements with you - either over the phone or through Skype. I haven't read Mr. Chittenden's book yet aside from a couple of excerpts, but I did recently read some stellar reviews of it on Goodreads and look forward to reading it in full. I am a longtime lover of historical fiction, especially the works of George MacDonald Fraser ("The Pyrates" and the Flashman series remain my favorites) and the more warped vision of my neighbor Tim Powers ("On Stranger Tides", another pirate classic). I love being able to envision a story cinematically and restructure it for film interpretation. From what I've seen of Mr. Chittenden's book, I definitely think it would be successful on the big screen if handled with respect, creativity and vision. I welcome the chance to exercise this realm of my creative mind, and I would like to speak with you further about the project. The 120-day timeframe is, of course, for full completion of the project upon being hired; an initial, partial draft can be delivered within two weeks for comments and suggestions.
