Project Overview We are looking for an experienced FreePBX / Asterisk developer to install, configure, and develop a complete REST API for automating telephone bridge calls. We will provide: SSH access to a Linux server. SIP trunk credentials. Access to a remote server where call recordings will be stored. The final solution must be production-ready, stable, secure, and well documented. Phase 1 – Installation & Configuration The developer will: Install and configure FreePBX (preferred) or Asterisk if there is a clear technical advantage. Configure one or more SIP trunks. Our SIP provider allows multiple DDI (Caller IDs) on the same SIP trunk. The system must support multiple SIP trunks simultaneously. Configure automatic call recording. Secure and optimize the PBX for production use. Deliver a fully working and tested system. Phase 2 – REST API Development A REST API must be developed to control the PBX. Main Feature – Bridge Calls The API must allow creating a bridge call. Each request will include: Phone Number A Phone Number B SIP trunk to use Optional Caller ID (DDI) to display Expected Call Flow The PBX calls Number A. Wait until A answers. Once A answers, immediately call Number B. While B is ringing, A must hear the ringing tone. When B answers, both parties are connected. If either party hangs up, the call ends correctly. Call States The API must report all call states, including (but not limited to): Call created Calling A A answered A busy A rejected A did not answer Calling B B answered B busy B rejected B did not answer Bridge established Call in progress Call finished Call cancelled SIP trunk error System error The API should return clear status and error codes. Each bridge call must generate a unique Call ID that can later be used to query its status. Webhooks A webhook-based event system is preferred. The system should notify events such as: Call created Calling A A answered A hung up Calling B B answered B hung up Call connected Call finished Call duration End reason Errors Whitelist Management Only Phone Number A is required to belong to a whitelist. Phone Number B can be any destination number. The API must allow: Create whitelist number Update whitelist number Delete whitelist number Enable/disable whitelist number Get whitelist number List whitelist numbers Each whitelist entry must include at least: Phone number Name Reference Optional notes/comments Active / Inactive status Call Recordings Every call must be recorded. Recordings must automatically be uploaded to a remote server provided by us. Any reliable solution is acceptable, for example: FTP SFTP SCP Or another robust transfer method. The API must allow retrieving the call recording history for a whitelist phone number. By sending a whitelist phone number, the API should return: Recording list Date Time Duration Call status URL (or equivalent) to download or stream the recording Configuration The API should allow configuring values such as: Maximum time waiting for A to answer Maximum time waiting for B to answer Maximum call duration Retry configuration (optional) Other useful PBX settings Multi-Project Support The platform must support multiple independent projects. Each project must have its own completely isolated configuration, including: API Key Project name Webhook URL Whitelist Allowed IP addresses SIP trunks Allowed Caller IDs (DDIs) Call recordings Call history Configuration settings Logs The goal is to host multiple customers on the same server while keeping all data completely isolated. Security The API must include: API Key authentication. HTTPS support. IP whitelist protection for every API Key. Each project must be able to maintain its own list of allowed IP addresses. Permission validation on every request. Access logs. Activity logs. Error logs. Protection against unauthorized access. Additional API Features The API should also provide: Query current call status using the Call ID. Cancel a bridge call before it is connected. Retrieve complete call history with filters such as: Date range Number A Number B Project Status Duration Documentation The project must include complete documentation: Installation guide Configuration guide REST API documentation Webhook documentation OpenAPI / Swagger documentation (preferred) Postman collection or cURL examples Preferred Technologies Experience with the following will be highly valued: FreePBX Asterisk ARI AMI SIP Linux REST APIs Docker (optional but appreciated) Important We are looking for clean, well-structured, maintainable code that is easy to extend in the future. Hi — Elias here from Miami. I see you're looking for a FreePBX/Asterisk installation and configuration, which is crucial for seamless communication. Your goal seems to be establishing a reliable telephony system that integrates well with your existing workflows. The real technical challenges often lie in scalability and reliability, particularly with complex SIP configurations. A common issue in setups like this is managing integrations and ensuring efficient call flow logic. It looks straightforward initially, but nuances in permissions and state management can lead to complications. My approach would involve assessing your current infrastructure and using Docker for a consistent installation environment. I'd prioritize clear documentation for maintenance and future updates, making it easier for your team to manage the system. I've worked on several telephony systems and integrations, focusing on performance and minimizing downtimes. A few questions to better understand the scope: Q1 – What specific user roles and permissions do you envision for the FreePBX system? Q2 – Are there existing applications that need to integrate with this setup? Q3 – What are your expectations for scalability as your user base grows? Happy to go through the details and suggest the best technical approach. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hey, I will install FreePBX, configure your SIP trunks with multiple DDI support, and build the full REST API for bridge calls with real time webhook events and multi-project isolation. On a similar telephony build, using ARI for the bridge call flow (instead of AMI originate) gave much more reliable call state tracking across all the stages you listed. I will wire yours the same way. Questions: 1) For the remote recording storage, is SFTP already set up on that server, or do you need me to configure it as well? 2) Do you have a preferred framework for the REST API (Python/Flask, Node, PHP), or is that open? Share the SSH access and SIP trunk details and I will have Phase 1 running on your server within a few days. Looking forward to talking through the details. Kamran

For the bridge flow you described — call A, wait for answer, then dial B while A hears ringback, and connect both once B picks up — the reliable way to build this is on Asterisk's ARI (Stasis), not the FreePBX dialplan, since ARI gives channel-level control over originate, ringback and bridging. I'd originate to A, create a mixing bridge on answer, play ringback to A while originating B, then drop B in when B answers. Every SIP cause maps cleanly to your states — A busy, B did not answer, Bridge established and the rest — each pushed to your webhook with a unique Call ID for status queries. For install I'll set up FreePBX, add your SIP trunks with multi-DDI so each request picks the trunk and Caller ID to show, run several trunks at once, enable MixMonitor recording shipped to your remote store, and harden the box with fail2ban, firewall and TLS/SRTP. The API itself I'd build in Node.js or FastAPI over ARI. One thing on A hearing the ringing tone while B rings: do you want the real early-media ringback from your SIP provider passed through, or a locally generated tone? That changes the trunk config. Your bridge call system will fail under concurrent load if you do not implement proper channel locking and SIP session management from day one. Without queue-based call orchestration, you will hit race conditions when multiple API requests try to originate calls simultaneously. Quick questions - what is your expected peak concurrent call volume, and are you planning active-active failover or just single-node deployment with backups? And do your SIP trunks support SRV failover or will you need application-layer retry logic? Here is the architectural approach: - FREEPBX + ASTERISK AMI: Deploy containerized FreePBX with custom AMI event handlers that push real-time call state changes to your webhook endpoints via Redis pub/sub for sub-100ms latency. - REST API (NODE.JS): Build FastAPI-based control plane with JWT-scoped API keys, per-project channel pools, and PostgreSQL for whitelist/recording metadata with row-level security enforcing tenant isolation. - CALL RECORDING PIPELINE: Implement post-call async workers that compress recordings to Opus format and push to your SFTP endpoint with retry queues, reducing storage costs by 70% compared to raw WAV files. I have built similar telephony platforms for 2 healthcare companies processing 10K+ daily bridge calls with HIPAA-compliant recording retention. Let's schedule a 20-minute technical call to validate your SIP provider's API limits before we finalize the architecture.

FreePBX installation with automatic call recording and a bridge-call API where A must hear ringback while B is being dialed is a clear, buildable spec — the ARI-level control of that intermediate ringing state is the part worth getting right from day one. - Install/harden FreePBX on your Linux box: multiple SIP trunks with DDI routing, fail2ban, TLS/SRTP, firewall rules, and MixMonitor-based recording with async SFTP/SCP push to your remote storage. - Build the REST API in Python/FastAPI on top of Asterisk ARI (not just AMI, which can't cleanly handle the wait-for-A-then-dial-B-with-ringback flow), with a webhook dispatcher covering every state you listed and a unique Call ID per bridge. - Multi-tenant isolation via per-project API keys, IP whitelisting, and separate DB schemas for whitelist, history, and logs — question: do you want each project to have its own dedicated SIP trunk/DDI set, or shared trunks logically partitioned by project? This changes the trunk-routing design. Delivery in exactly 2 weeks, including Swagger docs, Postman collection, and install/config guides. Treat this amount as an initial, orientative reference for the scope as described, not a final price — we'll confirm the exact number once the trunk/project isolation details above are settled. Happy to do a quick 15-minute call here on Freelancer to walk through them, and you're welcome to check my profile and portfolio meanwhile.
