We are seeking an experienced Backend Developer to implement new messaging, media, privacy, and VoIP signaling, Screen Sharing features into our existing WhatsApp-like communication platform. Tech Stack: Backend: Node.js, Fastify, PrismaORM, MySQL Real-time & Media: WebSockets, Mediasoup (Audio/Video calls) Note: You will only be responsible for the backend development (REST APIs, WebSocket events, database schema updates, background jobs, and Mediasoup signaling). Our mobile development team will handle all front-end/app integration. 1. Chat & Messaging Module** * **Message Reactions & Replies:** * Add API endpoints and WebSockets/Socket events for attaching reactions (emoji) to specific `message_id`s. * Support threaded replies by referencing `parent_message_id` in the message creation payload. * **Message Editing:** * Allow sender to update message content within a 10-minute window (`created_at` validation). Reject edits after 10 minutes. * **Message Deletion:** * Implement soft deletion (`is_deleted` flag). Return a standardized placeholder text/status for deleted messages in chat history APIs so the client can apply custom styling. * Support hard/soft deletion of group conversations on a per-user basis (user-level chat visibility flag). * **Ephemeral Messaging (Auto-Erase & Disappearing):** * **View-Once (Auto-Erase):** Add a flag to immediately wipe message content from DB/storage once read receipts are acknowledged by both sides. * **Disappearing Messages:** Support timer settings (`1h`, `6h`, `24h`, `7d`, `30d`, `90d`). Schedule background cleanup jobs (e.g., Redis TTL or Cron) to hard-delete expired messages for both sender and recipient. 2. Media & File Management** * **File Metadata & Forwarding:** * Preserve original file metadata (`original_filename`, `mime_type`, `file_size`) on upload. * Create a message forwarding endpoint that duplicates file/media attachment references without re-uploading. * **Media Album Grouping:** * Accept batch uploads and assign a unified `media_group_id` or array of attachment IDs within a single message object. * **Compression & Quality Options:** * Expose upload parameters/endpoints handling both original quality files and server-side/client-side compressed variants. ### **3. Privacy & Security Policies** * **Live Location Sharing:** * Implement real-time location streaming over WebSockets with configurable expiration durations (`1h`, `3h`, `6h`, `24h`). * Obfuscate/encrypt structural location URLs on the backend. * **Private Chat Flags:** * Add a `is_private_chat` status flag in conversation schemas. Deliver this flag via API so mobile clients can enforce restrictions (blocking screenshots, file downloads, text copying, and forwarding). 4. Calling & VoIP Signaling System** * **Group Calling Logic & Constraints:** * **Member Count Limitation (Group Call Visibility Flag):** * Include a boolean flag `is_group_call_enabled` in the group metadata/details API response. * **Rule:** Set `is_group_call_enabled = false` if `total_group_members >= 30`. This signals the client app to completely hide the group call button. * **Max Participant Cap (Dynamic Room State via WebSockets):** * Enforce a maximum limit of **20 active participants** per call room. * Track current active participant count on the backend. * When the active count reaches 20, emit a real-time socket event (e.g., `call_room_full` or updated `room_capacity_status`) to all remaining unjoined group members. * This event informs the client app to immediately hide or disable the "Join Call" button for unjoined members while the call is full. * If a participant leaves and the count drops below 20, emit an updated state event to re-enable the "Join Call" button for unjoined members. * **Mid-Call Invitations:** * Support adding new participants dynamically to an active call room up to the 20-participant cap. 5. Screen Sharing *Develop as zoom or google meet premium control. (Mute all, audio lock, video lock, restricted presentation, make co- host, remove co-host, unmute single participant, hand rise, share screen, react, chat, photo, video, file share when meeting *Extra control for creator: Per minute rate call rate. Participants pay call rate from Main Wallet, Creator Earn to Main Wallet (deduct 6% as platform charge) *Meeting link create: Company charge from creator per hour as platform fee, $1/2/3/ Billed per hourly. *When creator set call rate 0 (Zero) that means participants no need charge. More information will be provided after disscussion.

Hi Sir, The approach would start by understanding your existing message, conversation, group, attachment, and call architecture, then extending it with reactions, replies, message editing/deletion, disappearing and view-once messages, forwarding, media albums, file metadata, compression handling, and background cleanup jobs. WebSocket events would keep message and privacy states synchronized in real time, while authorization and validation would be handled server-side. For calling, the backend would manage Mediasoup signaling, group-call eligibility, the 20-participant active-room limit, dynamic invitations, participant join/leave states, reconnect handling, and real-time capacity events. Race-condition protection and consistent room state would be important to prevent exceeding participant limits. The premium meeting layer would include moderator controls such as mute-all, audio/video locks, co-host management, participant removal, hand raise, screen sharing, reactions, chat, and file/media sharing. The monetization system would securely handle creator call rates, participant wallet deductions, 6% platform fees, creator earnings, hourly meeting fees, and free calls when the creator sets the rate to zero. The implementation would use modular APIs, reliable WebSocket contracts, transactional database operations, Redis/background workers, and scalable real-time architecture so the mobile team receives predictable and production-ready backend services. Best, Rahul

Hi, The project requires robust backend enhancements for messaging, media management, and VoIP signaling within a real-time communication platform. The main engineering risk lies in orchestrating real-time state synchronization and enforcing constraints such as participant caps and message lifecycle rules reliably. I usually structure backend systems by separating REST API logic, WebSocket event handling, and background job orchestration to maintain clarity and scalability. My experience with custom feature development on live systems has honed my skills in safely extending existing databases and APIs while ensuring maintainability. I recommend implementing strict validation layers for message edits and deletions and using event-driven mechanisms to update client state in real time. Managing ephemeral message cleanup with scalable background jobs and leveraging Redis TTL or cron jobs is critical for data consistency. Systems like this benefit from clear separation of signaling and data persistence layers, with fallback and retry logic to handle network and concurrency issues gracefully. I can help outline the backend architecture for messaging, media attachments, and VoIP signaling, ensuring the system is robust and maintainable. Thanks, Hercules

The complexity of enhancing your WhatsApp-like platform with features such as message reactions, ephemeral messaging, and a robust VoIP signaling system requires a strategic and methodical approach. As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer with over 12 years of experience, I am well-prepared to take on this challenge. I will begin by designing a clean architecture that aligns with your current tech stack, focusing on Node.js and Fastify for optimal performance. For the messaging module, I will implement the required REST APIs and WebSocket events, ensuring that message reactions and threaded replies function seamlessly while adhering to the 10-minute editing rule. Soft deletion will be executed through an `is_deleted` flag, allowing for effective management of user visibility. For ephemeral messaging, I will establish background jobs using Redis or Cron to handle scheduled deletions, ensuring compliance with user privacy. In terms of media management, I will create endpoints for file metadata preservation and batch uploads, while ensuring that compression options cater to both original and optimized files. The privacy features will involve implementing real-time location sharing and obfuscating sensitive data, which is crucial for user trust. For the VoIP signaling system, I will establish constraints for group calling and dynamic room management via WebSockets, ensuring a smooth experience for up to 20 participants. Additionally, the screen sharing functionality will be developed with premium controls that cater to both creators and participants, including monetization features. I am committed to a test-driven approach and reliable delivery, ensuring that each feature is robust and scalable. I look forward to discussing this project further to align on technical specifics and timelines. Regards, Nabeel Abid

Your feature list spans three distinct backend problems: message lifecycle rules (edit windows, soft delete, TTL cleanup), Mediasoup room state with hard participant caps, and a per-minute billing loop with a 6% platform cut — each needs different guarantees, so I'd build them as separate services behind one Fastify API. I've built WebSocket platforms with state machines and recoverable execution flows, plus multi-provider payment pipelines with commission tracking, which maps directly to your call-rate wallet deductions. Approach: 1) Prisma schema migrations for reactions, parent_message_id, is_deleted, ephemeral timers, media_group_id; 2) socket event layer for room capacity, live location, and call_room_full broadcasts; 3) Redis TTL + cron workers for disappearing messages and per-minute billing ticks. Is the wallet/ledger system already in your MySQL schema, or does that need building too?

Hi, I can extend your existing Node.js/Fastify backend with Prisma/MySQL migrations, versioned REST APIs, authenticated WebSocket events, Redis/BullMQ jobs, and Mediasoup signaling while preserving compatibility with the mobile team. I’ll implement reactions, replies, timed edits, per-user deletion, disappearing/view-once content, media grouping and forwarding, expiring live location, private-chat flags, group-call capacity, invitations, screen-sharing permissions, host/co-host controls, reactions, hand raising, and meeting chat/file events. Paid calls will use an ACID ledger with reservations, per-minute metering, idempotent charges, 6% commission, creator credits, hourly platform fees, refunds, and automated reconciliation. Cleanup, expiry, capacity updates, retries, and billing alerts will be automated and restart-safe. Important: screenshot, copying, and download restrictions can be signaled by the backend but must be enforced by mobile clients and cannot be guaranteed on every device. Three technical questions: 1. Are Redis, BullMQ, object storage, and a wallet ledger already implemented? 2. Does Mediasoup currently run as one node or a distributed worker cluster? 3. Should billing round by exact seconds, started minutes, or completed minutes? Best regards, Houssame

Hi, I can develop the Renesas firmware to run IEC 60870-5-104 and standard TCP/IP concurrently through the Quectel EC200, with particular attention to non-blocking communication, recovery logic, and long-term field reliability. EC200 modem/AT command driver, socket manager, IEC104 protocol engine, application data interface, and diagnostics/watchdog handling. UART communication would use interrupt/DMA-driven ring buffers where supported, so modem traffic and IEC104 processing remain non-blocking. For IEC104, I can integrate a suitable lightweight open-source stack where licensing permits, or implement the required IEC104 functionality directly depending on your exact ASDU requirements. This would include connection state management, I/S/U frames, sequence validation, timers, acknowledgements, reconnect handling, and configurable payload processing. 1 Confirm the exact Renesas MCU/board, compiler, EC200 interface, and IEC104 ASDUs required. 2 Build the EC200 AT-command and TCP connection state machine. 3 Integrate IEC104 and concurrent TCP socket handling. 4 Add application-facing TX/RX APIs, buffering, validation, recovery, and watchdogs. 5 Run continuous stress/reconnect testing for 24+ hours and resolve memory or stability issues. 6 Perform warning cleanup, MISRA-C basic analysis, and prepare source, linker files, test scripts, and e2 studio build documentation. Can you share the exact Renesas MCU/board model and which IEC104 ASDUs/commands your SCADA master expects?

For this backend scope, I’d extend your existing Node.js + Fastify + Prisma/MySQL architecture rather than introduce another service layer, with particular care around Mediasoup room state, disappearing-message cleanup, and wallet-based meeting billing. My two priorities would be scalability and maintainability. I’d model reactions, replies, per-user deletion, media groups, live-location expiry, call capacity, and meeting permissions as explicit database/state transitions, with WebSocket events kept idempotent so reconnects do not create duplicate actions. Redis-backed jobs can handle expiry, presence, room capacity, and delayed cleanup efficiently. For paid meetings, I’d use an immutable wallet ledger with transactional debit/credit entries, platform-fee records, and idempotent per-minute/hour billing rather than directly modifying balances. This makes payment disputes and audits much safer. One correction: is_private_chat can tell mobile clients to disable screenshots/copying, but it cannot be the security boundary. File access, forwarding, and protected media permissions should also be enforced server-side. A relevant example is FileChannels, where I worked with React/mobile apps, WebRTC/Agora calling, PubNub messaging, Stripe, protected document sharing, centralized files, and CRM synchronization.

For scaling Mediasoup signaling alongside high-frequency WebSocket messaging in Node.js and Fastify, maintaining sub-50ms latency requires a decoupled Redis pub/sub layer rather than sticky session bottlenecks on MySQL. To handle ephemeral data cleanup without locking tables, I recommend leveraging Redis TTL combined with background worker queues for Prisma and MySQL bulk updates. For the 20-participant call rooms and Zoom-style granular permissions, atomic Redis counters will cleanly manage dynamic capacity states and real-time room locks. Having architected high-load real-time chat and VoIP signaling platforms over the last 15 years, I will ensure robust schema integrity, secure wallet deduction logic, and flawless API delivery for your mobile team.
