We are seeking a knowledgeable and meticulous Specialist to support the development and production of a traditional Chinese herbal formula designed to support fertility wellness for both men and women. This role is strictly for educational and cultural preservation purposes. The specialist will be responsible for ensuring the authentic and safe preparation of herbs according to classical principles, while also assisting in translating and explaining the historical context, methodology, and intended use of the formula for our educational programs. This position does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. Key Responsibilities: 1. Herb Sourcing, Preparation, and Production (50%) Source authentic, high-quality, and ethically harvested dried herbs from reputable suppliers, verifying their identity and purity. Meticulously prepare herbs according to traditional methods, which may include washing, soaking, drying, frying (制, zhì - processing), cutting, and grinding using appropriate tools. Accurately measure and combine individual herbs into a finished formula based on a provided classical recipe, ensuring precise ratios and consistency. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace according to health and safety standards. Manage inventory of raw herbs and prepared materials. 2. Translation and Historical Contextualization (30%) Translate key classical texts and modern materia medica (e.g., excerpts from 《本草纲目》 Compendium of Materia Medica) related to the specific herbs and formula. Act as a cultural translator, explaining the historical use, symbolic meanings, and traditional beliefs associated with the herbs and the concept of fertility in TCM (e.g., Kidney Jing essence, Qi and Blood). Translate and explain the principles of the formula, including the traditional roles of each herb (e.g., Emperor (君), Minister (臣), Assistant (佐), Envoy (使)) and its intended function from a TCM perspective. Assist in creating accurate, translated educational materials, labels, and disclaimers. 3. Educational Support (20%) Demonstrate traditional preparation techniques in educational workshops and seminars. Clearly explain the crucial importance of consulting a licensed healthcare professional before using any herbal product. Support the Lead Herbalist in answering factual questions about herb origins, processing, and historical context. Required Qualifications & Skills: Formal education and proven experience in Chinese herbal medicine, such as a degree or certification from a recognized institution, or equivalent apprenticeship training. Fluency in English and Mandarin (verbal and written) is essential. Ability to read Classical Chinese is a significant advantage. Deep knowledge of Chinese Materia Medica (中药学), specifically regarding herbs that support reproductive health (e.g., 当归 Dāngguī, 枸杞子 Gǒuqǐzǐ, 菟丝子 Túsīzǐ, 熟地黄 Shúdìhuáng). Hands-on experience with traditional herb processing (炮制, páozhì) techniques. Understanding of TCM theory related to fertility and the concepts of 肾 (Shèn - Kidney), 精 (Jīng - Essence), and 血 (Xuè - Blood). Meticulous attention to detail, patience, and a strong commitment to safety and quality. Ability to explain complex traditional concepts in an accessible, educational, and non-diagnostic manner. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in an educational, museum, or research setting. Knowledge of modern scientific research on traditional herbs. Experience with regulatory and safety standards for herbal products (even for educational purposes). Critical Disclaimer (To be included in all materials): This role is for educational and cultural demonstration only. The individual in this position is not a licensed medical practitioner in this context and will not provide diagnosis, treatment plans, or medical advice. All educational materials must contain a clear disclaimer that these products have not been evaluated by the FDA and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Participants will be strongly advised to consult with their physician and a licensed acupuncturist/herbalist before using any herbal remedy.
