I have already ported Flash4Linux ( [login to view URL] ) to Qt 5.12. On macOS, however, the program still crashes whenever I hover over the timeline widget. My priority is simple: bring the interface back to the responsiveness of the original so I can focus on creating Flash animations instead of fighting crashes. You’ll need to: • Reproduce and isolate the macOS-only crash (most symptoms appear while hovering or dragging on the timeline). • Patch the underlying C++/Qt 5.12 code so the UI never segfaults or freezes and remains just as responsive as before. • Submit your changes as a clean pull request to the GitHub repository. Acceptance criteria 1. Application starts and runs on macOS without asserts or segmentation faults. 2. All other features, old Flash file compatibility included, remain intact.

I reviewed the Qt 5.12 port and found a strong lead in `CTable::contentsMouseMoveEvent()`: mouse tracking is enabled and every hover is forwarded directly into `timeLineRightTopLabel->mouseMoveEvent(e)`, so I’d start by reproducing that macOS path under LLDB/ASan and checking event coordinates, object lifetime and legacy Qt3-compat assumptions. I’ll patch the actual fault rather than suppress events, regression-test timeline dragging and SWF behavior, then submit a clean PR with the fix.

Hello! I can reproduce and isolate the macOS-only crash in the Qt 5.12 timeline handling and trace it to the underlying C++ issue rather than applying a superficial workaround. I have hands-on macOS experience, including working with macOS/OS X in VMware/Hackintosh environments, Apple LLVM/Clang toolchains, and building/debugging cross-platform C++/Tcl software on macOS. I’m also experienced with legacy desktop code, platform-specific build/runtime issues, and tracing difficult crashes through the code and call stack. I’ll debug the hover/drag event path, fix the segfault/freezing while preserving Flash compatibility, verify the affected UI behavior, and submit a clean, focused GitHub PR.

Hi, I can help investigate and fix the macOS-specific crash in your Qt 5.12 port of Flash4Linux. I’ll reproduce the issue around the timeline hover/drag events, trace the underlying C++/Qt event and memory handling, and identify the root cause rather than applying a temporary workaround. I’ll make the smallest safe fix possible, test the application for regressions including existing Flash file compatibility, and submit the changes as a clean GitHub pull request. I’m available to start immediately. Best regards, Ioannis

The crash on hover points to an event-handling or memory issue specific to macOS Qt builds — often a dangling pointer in the timeline widget's mouse tracking or a paint event triggering a segfault in native Cocoa integration. I'll clone Flash4Linux, reproduce the crash locally on macOS, and trace it with lldb and Qt Creator's debugger to isolate exactly which signal or slot is failing. Once I've pinpointed the cause — whether it's unsafe pointer access, missing null checks in the timeline repaint logic, or a threading issue with macOS event loops — I'll patch the C++ code to eliminate the segfault while keeping the original responsiveness intact. All existing functionality and Flash file compatibility will be verified through testing before and after the fix. The patched code will be submitted as a clean pull request with comments explaining what was breaking and why the fix works, so the repository maintainer understands the change. Two questions: Are you seeing this crash consistently on a specific macOS version, or across multiple versions? And does the crash happen immediately on the first hover, or only after certain actions in the timeline? Thanks, Carlos

Hello, I can debug and fix the Qt UI crashes in your Flash4Linux port by identifying macOS-specific memory access issues in the timeline widget. I’ve fixed similar Qt crashes in a macOS app by adding null checks to signal-slot connections and ensuring proper cleanup in event handlers. I’d approach this by running the app under Instruments to find memory leaks or invalid accesses, then isolating the crash to the timeline’s event handling. The biggest improvement will come from refactoring the widget to use Qt’s event system safely, avoiding raw pointers where possible. This will keep the UI responsive while maintaining Flash file compatibility. The fix will prevent crashes and let you focus on animation work without interruptions. Once done, I’ll submit a clean pull request with the changes and verify they pass your acceptance criteria. If this approach works for you, I’d be happy to discuss the details further. Thanks, Lazar.

Hi, there. I successfully ported Flash4Linux to Qt 5.12, but the macOS version still crashes on timeline hover/drag. In the original Flash4Linux, I encountered similar issues due to threading and event handling. To resolve this, I implemented a custom event queue and optimized threading for performance. This approach allowed for seamless UI interaction and crash-free execution. To address the issue, I propose a multi-step approach: 1. Analyze the crash logs to identify the root cause, likely related to thread synchronization or event handling. 2. Implement a custom event queue, similar to the one used in the original Flash4Linux, to ensure timely event processing. 3. Optimize threading by introducing a separate worker thread for UI updates, ensuring UI responsiveness and crash-free execution. If I use my previous experience, your project will likely be completed successfully. Hope to discuss this in detail. Through detailed discussion, I think I can find the better solution to finish your project successfully. Thank you.

Hi there! The main issue is the macOS-only crash around the timeline hover and drag events, which is blocking normal animation work. The fix needs to remove the crash without affecting existing Flash file compatibility or UI responsiveness. I have experience with C++, Qt, debugging platform-specific crashes, event handling and GUI stability. I can work through the existing Qt 5.12 port and trace the timeline widget behavior to identify the exact cause. I will reproduce the crash on macOS, inspect the timeline event and memory handling, then patch the underlying C++/Qt code. I will test hover, drag and related UI actions to ensure there are no segfaults or freezes. Finally, I will keep the changes clean and submit a proper pull request to the repository. check our work https://www.freelancer.com/u/ayesha86664 Could you share the current Qt 5.12 branch or build steps you are using on macOS? Let me know if you’re interested & we can discuss it. Best Regards Ayesha

Good day! Based on your requirements, I understand that you're looking for an experienced C++/Qt developer to debug a macOS-specific crash in your Flash4Linux Qt 5.12 port. The main issue appears around the timeline widget during hover or dragging, and the goal is to identify the root cause, patch the underlying code, and keep the application responsive without affecting existing Flash file compatibility. I can reproduce the issue on macOS, trace the crash through the relevant Qt/C++ code, implement a clean fix, and test the affected UI and existing functionality before submitting the changes as a clean GitHub pull request. Q1: Which macOS version and architecture (Intel/Apple Silicon) are you currently testing on? Q2: Do you have a reproducible build environment or any crash logs/stack traces from the timeline issue? Q3: Are there any recent changes in the Qt 5.12 port that you suspect may be related to the crash? I would love to schedule a meeting or have a detailed conversation about the project to clarify some concerns about the project, this way I can demonstrate my capabilities perfectly and suggest the best result possible. The budget and payment terms can be discussed and mutually finalized after reviewing the complete requirements and scope of work. Thank You!

Hi, The macOS crash sounds most likely to be in the timeline’s hover/drag event path, so I’d start by reproducing it under a debugger and tracing mouseMove/enter/leave events, widget state, and any stale pointers or invalid indexes introduced during the Qt 5.12 port. I’d keep the fix narrowly scoped in the C++/Qt code, then regression-test timeline interaction, playback/editing behavior, and existing Flash file handling so responsiveness is restored without changing working functionality. My background in C++, desktop software, debugging, and software testing fits this kind of legacy UI stabilization work well. I also reviewed the repository structure, so the next useful step would be to build the current branch on macOS, capture the crash stack, and patch the exact failing path before preparing a clean pull request. Thanks, Novak.

Hi, I’d be glad to take this on. I understand the frustration here—when the application works elsewhere but crashes the moment you interact with the timeline on macOS, it gets in the way of the actual creative work the software is meant for. I’ll reproduce the crash on macOS, isolate the exact Qt 5.12/C++ issue around timeline hover/drag events, and trace it down to the underlying cause rather than applying a superficial workaround. I’ll then patch the code with a focus on stability, responsiveness, and preserving existing Flash-file compatibility. Once verified, I’ll provide a clean, focused pull request to the repository with the necessary changes and enough context to make the fix easy to review and maintain. My goal is simple: Make the timeline "boring" again—stable, responsive, and reliable—so you can get back to creating.

Hi It looks like you're having issues with crashes in the Mac Qt port of your application. The technical challenge here is likely related to memory management or signal-slot connections in Qt, which can cause instability in the user interface on macOS. To address this, I'd focus on debugging with tools like Valgrind to pinpoint memory leaks or mismanaged resources, and utilize Qt's own debugging features to inspect signal-slot connections. In the past, I've successfully stabilized a similar Qt-based application where such memory issues were causing frequent UI crashes. I used Valgrind extensively to track down and fix memory misuse, resulting in a much more stable release. I appreciate the focus you've put into maintaining a cross-platform UI using Qt. I can definitely help resolve these issues and I'd be happy to walk you through my proposed approach or take a look at your setup to suggest improvements. Thanks, Jonathan

Hi, Hovering/dragging on the timeline widget on macOS strongly suggests an event-handling or object-lifetime bug triggered by Qt 5.12's interaction with Cocoa (mouse tracking, native event delivery, or a dangling pointer from a deleted QObject). My first task will be to reproduce the crash under lldb/ASan and capture the exact stack trace so I can confirm whether the fault is in the widget event handlers, an event filter, or a threading/race condition between the UI and worker code. I have fixed similar macOS-only Qt crashes and stabilized C++/Qt 5.x ports by tracing signals/slots across threads, validating object lifetimes before use, and tightening mouse event handling to avoid accessing deleted children during paint or layout. I have restored responsive timelines and ensured legacy file compatibility in past desktop ports using focused debugging, unit tests for interaction paths, and minimal, well-documented code changes. I will first reproduce the crash on a macOS dev machine, create a minimal test case, then patch the Qt 5.12 C++ code to eliminate the segfault/freeze and run the full test-suite including old Flash file loading. I will submit a clean pull request with commit-level explanations and a reproducer if helpful. - Can you share a macOS crash log, the exact Qt build used, and steps to reproduce on a clean checkout? - Do you prefer the PR target branch to be master or a separate maintenance branch? Sincerely, @melopgabriel

Hi Your project involves resolving UI crashes in the Mac port of Flash4Linux, especially when hovering over the timeline widget. These crashes might be due to mishandling Qt's event loop or signal-slot connections, leading to segmentation faults. 12 code to prevent these issues. I've got solid experience with C++ and Qt. I've worked on several cross-platform projects, fixing similar UI crash and responsiveness problems. One project involved media app event handling optimizations, which improved stability significantly. I respect your focus on preserving the interface's responsiveness for creating Flash animations. I can help restore stability and I'd be happy to discuss my approach in detail with you. Thanks, Oswaldo

Hi, starting with the timeline widget code and a macOS build so I can reproduce the crash on hover. Getting the interface responsive again on macOS without segfaults, with older Flash file compatibility intact, is the goal. Previously I have debugged Qt applications where a crash on hover traced back to a null pointer in an event handler, and that is where I would look first here. I could not open the repository from the link, so send the repo URL directly or confirm access, and I will check the timeline class. One honest note: I have not worked with Flash4Linux specifically, though C++, Qt 5.12 and macOS debugging are familiar ground. I would want to see the code before promising a fix timeline. Confident I can deliver high quality results within your deadline if awarded. Talk soon.

Hi, The timeline hover crash sounds like the kind of macOS-specific Qt issue where event handling, widget lifetime, painting, or coordinate/state assumptions differ from the existing Linux behavior. I’d first reproduce it with the timeline hover and drag paths, then use the crash trace and debugger to isolate the exact C++ code causing the segfault or freeze rather than applying a broad workaround. I’d keep the fix scoped to the affected Qt 5.12 code and verify that timeline interaction remains responsive while checking that existing Flash file loading and other UI behavior are unchanged. Do you already have a macOS crash log or stack trace from the current build, or should I reproduce and capture that as the first step? Once fixed, I can provide the changes as a clean GitHub pull request with the relevant validation details. Nicolas

Hello, I can help fix the macOS-only crash in your Qt 5.12 port of Flash4Linux, so you can get back to making animations instead of fighting the app. My approach: 1. Build the project on macOS and reproduce the crash when hovering or dragging on the timeline. 2. Isolate the cause with a debug build and stack trace (lldb / Console crash log). In custom Qt widgets on macOS, the usual suspects are null or dangling pointers in mouse and hover event handlers, mouse-tracking differences, Qt 4 to Qt 5 behaviour changes, and update() calls inside paintEvent. 3. Patch the C++/Qt code with the smallest safe change, so responsiveness stays the same and nothing else is affected. 4. Check that the app starts and runs without asserts or segfaults, and that other features and old Flash file compatibility still work. 5. Submit a clean, well-described pull request to your GitHub repository. To start quickly, could you please share: - A crash log or stack trace, if you have one - Your macOS version and Mac type (Intel or Apple Silicon) - The link to your ported repo/branch and how you build it (qmake or CMake) - Whether the crash happens every time or only sometimes Once I can reproduce the crash, I will report the root cause and my planned fix before opening the PR. I will keep the PR small and readable so it is easy to review. Best regards, Andre Septian
