We currently have a custom publishing project to create a 46 to 48 page Mook (Magazine / Book). The Mook is a biography of an artist documenting his life and works. The Mook will be published in two languages - an English version and a Chinese version.
The project is nearly finished but the designer has sadly had an accident that has put him out of action and wont be back until after the necessary deadline.
The English version is currently laid out in a basic first draft style but currently stands at 70 pages. Therefore the designer needs to cut pages to bring it down to the target 46 pages and also to redesign the Mook to adjust to the changes made. Once it is cut to the correct pagination, it will need to be tweaked and redesigned to look as good as possible. The designer can help make creative suggestions on how to re-design the Mook to look as visually appealing as possible. The final design will then be sent to the client for approval and changes may have to be made following feedback from the client.
When the English design and layout has been approved the designer will have to replace the English text with the Chinese text to create the Chinese design. If the designer can read Chinese this is obviously a bonus but not essential as staff here can assist. There is likely to be some design changes also needed for the Chinese version as word counts will differ.
The format is currently in Indesign CS2 and can be downloaded from an FTP with all text (English and Chinese) and images. Some images are currently in low res format but when the approved design is in place the client will send the high res images to be inserted.
The final magazine must be made print ready with all images and fonts rendered as necessary.
The project is realistically no more than 2 days of work but there will be some back and forward between the client and final sign off.
Both the English and Chinese versions need to be complete to the standards and specifications of the client no later than February 22nd.
This is a basic project with no complex design skills needed however, the client expects incredibly high standards and there is a tight deadline to meet.
