Staying on standard connectors - SharePoint, Outlook, Word Online - keeps this inside the M365 licences you already hold. The moment a premium connector appears (Dataverse, SQL, HTTP, custom), every user needs a Power Apps Premium licence. Your "SharePoint only" instruction is right and I would hold to it.
